Position Summary

CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has issued an Advertisement inviting online applications from eligible candidates for purely temporary positions of Project Associate-I (PAT-I) across two subject areas.

Vacancies: 3 posts total across 2 post codes

ETD-3 (Marine Sciences) — 1 post: Essential Qualification: M.Sc./M.F.Sc. in Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology/Fisheries from a recognized university or equivalent. Monthly Stipend: Rs. 25,000/- + 20% HRA.

BBD-I (Membrane Biology/Biophysics) — 2 posts: Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Biotechnology or Life Sciences from a recognized university or equivalent. Desirable: Candidates with M.Sc. in Life Science areas are preferred. Monthly Stipend: Rs. 31,000/- + 20% HRA for candidates qualified in CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (including lectureship/assistant professorship), GATE, or equivalent national-level examinations conducted by central government departments like DBT/DST; Rs. 25,000/- + 20% HRA for others.

Age Limit: Maximum 35 years as on the closing date of online application, with relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped and Female candidates as per GOI/CSIR rules.

Online Application Window: Available from 11.06.2026 (5:30 PM) to 22.06.2026 (5:30 PM) on the CSIR-NIIST website (https://www.niist.res.in/opportunities-and-careers/temporary-position). No other mode of application will be accepted.

Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview; date and time will be notified on the institute website. The Screening Committee will apply its own criteria for shortlisting beyond the minimum prescribed qualifications.

Key Terms and Conditions: Posts are tenable till the duration of the project. Candidates must submit separate applications for each post code. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Canvassing/political influence leads to disqualification. Scanned copies of all certificates must be uploaded; CGPA/SGPA must be converted to percentage as per university norms. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are encouraged to apply. Waitlisted candidates may be considered for future project vacancies within one year from the interview date.
