The Plant Developmental Genetics research group investigates the regulation of plant stem cells in Arabidopsis thaliana and Hordeum vulgare using state-of-the-art molecular biological, genetic, and cell biological methods, including advanced confocal microscopy. We are seeking a dedicated, responsible, and research-oriented individual who enjoys teamwork and is responsible for the technical management, organization, and further development of the laboratory. Your tasks in our working group include:
Technical Laboratory Management
- Independent technical management of the molecular biology laboratory
- professional guidance and coordination of students and staff
- Ensuring laboratory standards, quality assurance and process optimization
- Overall responsibility for laboratory logistics, safety, infrastructure and resources
Person responsible for occupational safety and biological and genetic safety
- Coordination and responsible execution of genetic engineering work (S1 Level)
- Preparation of risk assessments and safety documentation (occupational safety and genetic engineering)
- Ensuring compliance with legal documentation and standards.
Science-related activities
- Establishment and optimization of new plant molecular biological and cell biological methods
- advanced confocal fluorescence microscopy
- Complex molecular biological work (cloning, expression experiments, mutant analyses)
- Organization and maintenance of plant line and plasmid collections
- Conducting complex experiments, preparing and assisting in the setup of new research projects
- Contribution to publications and research proposals
IT Officer of the Working Group
- Responsibility for laboratory IT systems, software licenses, user management, website and data security
- Coordination with central IT regarding system updates, hardware decisions, and security issues.
- Support of scientific software and hardware (e.g. microscopy software and hardware, analysis tools)
Responsible administration of the electronic laboratory notebook (ElabFTW)
- Introduction, administration and further development of ElabFTW
- Granting rights, training and support for all users
- Quality assurance of digital documentation according to Good Scientific Practice (GSP)
- Ensuring traceable, audit-proof and data protection-compliant documentation in the S1 area
- Organization of teaching and further education
- Preparation and supervision of internships in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs
- Training of new members in the areas of laboratory organization, genetic engineering and occupational safety and methods
- Organization of seminars, workshops, lab meetings and retreats
Hiring requirements:
This position requires at least a completed university degree (Bachelor’s) in biology, biosciences, or a related field. Solid knowledge in molecular biology, plant biology, and cell biology is expected. Experience with confocal microscopy and image analysis is required. Furthermore, knowledge of the German Genetic Engineering Act (GenTG), occupational safety and safety procedures, as well as technical laboratory management, is necessary. Excellent German and English skills are required. Applicants should also possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and be team-oriented.
Experience is desirable:
- as a genetic engineering project manager and occupational safety officer, or willingness to undergo the corresponding qualification
- in IT administration, data management and software support
- in the use of electronic lab notebooks
- in the instructions for scientific staff
