Technical Assistant position in The Forest Phytopathobiomes department

The Forest Phytopathobiomes department conducts research at the interface between the chemical protective functions of trees, microbiology, the molecular interactions between plants and microorganisms, and forest pathology. We are seeking a qualified and highly motivated technical assistant to work in the laboratory and on plant experiments. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and international research team investigating how trees interact with harmful and beneficial microorganisms. The technical assistant will play a key role in coordinating laboratory operations, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting greenhouse and field trials.

Responsibilities include:

• Propagation, cultivation and care of forest tree species under greenhouse conditions.
• Support for laboratory and greenhouse experiments.
• Sampling and preparation of plant, soil and microbial samples for molecular and biochemical analyses.
• Performing routine laboratory work, including:
  • Molecular biological methods (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR and gel electrophoresis).
  • Microbiological techniques (isolation of microorganisms, cultivation and strain retention).
• Organization and management of laboratory equipment, consumables, plant and chemical stocks, and experimental protocols.

Your profile:

• Completed vocational training as a Biotechnical Assistant (BTA).
• Experience in laboratory management, including ordering reagents, managing consumables, maintaining laboratory equipment, and working under safety level S1.
• Practical experience in a plant or microbiology laboratory.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and sequencing.
• Knowledge of microbiological and plant pathological methods, including microbial isolation, culture care, aseptic techniques and infection experiments.
• Reliability, motivation, and a willingness to learn new techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills, fluency in English (both spoken and written), and either very good German or English skills with basic knowledge of the other language are required. Native German speakers with good basic English skills are preferred.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
