Research Assistant position in “Innovative use of grassland for sustainable intensification of agriculture on a landscape scale”

A part-time position (65% of regular weekly working hours) is available. The position is limited until December 31, 2028.

Employment is within the framework of the BMBF-funded project “ GreenGrass 2.0 – Innovative use of grassland for sustainable intensification of agriculture on a landscape scale (FKZ 031B1526A) ”.

• Grazing trials, primarily with cattle, at various locations in Germany

Your tasks:
• Conducting grazing trials with farm animals
• Staying at the trial site for several days to several weeks during the grazing season
• Collecting data on agronomic and ecological target variables as well as animal behavior and health
• Observing animals and analyzing video footage
• Investigating feed intake, movement patterns, and animal welfare on pasture under conventional and innovative fencing systems
• Acquiring and continuously developing expertise in conducting animal experiments
• Participating in project meetings and contributing to project tasks
• Statistical analysis of data, preparation of project reports and scientific publications
 
Your profile:
• An excellent university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field Agricultural sciences, ecosystem management, geoecology, biology, or related fields
• Strong interest in current issues of sustainable agriculture, with a focus on animal husbandry, pasture management, and nature conservation
• Excellent written and spoken English skills
• Willingness to undertake business trips and fieldwork lasting at least several days
• Knowledge of statistics, ideally using R, proficiency in standard office software, knowledge of plant sociology, and certification for conducting animal experiments are advantageous
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and flexibility skills
• Strong interest in scientific writing
