We are seeking highly motivated candidates for the peatland research cluster, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. The new peatland research cluster combines the expertise of the University of Greifswald and the Greifswald Moor Centre (in formation).
Peatlands play a crucial role in achieving the ambitious goals of the Federal Climate Protection Act, the Peatland Conservation Strategy, and the Restoration Ordinance. Therefore, there is a significant need for research, particularly on rewetted peatlands. Both in-depth basic research and broad-based applied research are urgently required. The same applies to the associated publicly accessible research infrastructure. The project results will be exemplary and transferable in both national and international contexts. Research focuses on biodiversity and ecosystem services, water balance and water quality, and sustainable use/paludiculture.

Your tasks:

• Independent organization and execution of fieldwork, including the use of different data collection methods for invertebrates and vertebrates.
• Independent processing and evaluation of samples (sorting and identification of arthropods), as well as support in establishing new monitoring procedures.
• Independent processing, evaluation and preparation of the collected data for publications
• Organization of the Biodiversity Laboratory

Your profile:

Mandatory requirements:

• at least one completed university degree (e.g., Diplom-FH, Bachelor, Engineer) in the field of biology, ecology, environmental technology, or environmental engineering or an equivalent qualification with task-related knowledge and skills
• Expertise in several Central European species groups of bogs, e.g. spiders, ground beetles, birds or amphibians
• Basic knowledge of data management and statistical methods
• Independent work with a hands-on mentality, team spirit, helpfulness and reliability
• very good and confident command of German and English, both spoken and written.
• Driver’s license

Other knowledge and skills that are significantly taken into account in the selection decision include:

• Experience in organizing field and laboratory work
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
