The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology invites applications for a tenured professorship (salary grade W3 NBesO) to commence as soon as possible:
W3 Professorship in Wood Sciences (m/f/d)
The professorship will represent the field of wood sciences in its entirety in research and teaching, with a focus on solid wood research, and will simultaneously strengthen the link between wood science and forestry research within the faculty. In research, the professorship will substantially strengthen the faculty’s priority areas of “Sustainable Multifunctional Use and Management of Forests” and “Forests in Transformation.”
The position entails the following teaching responsibilities: Subject-specific contributions to the faculty’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, particularly in the Master’s specialization “Wood Biology and Wood Technology.” Due to the international profile of the professorship and the students, some courses will be taught in English. However, excellent German language skills are required due to the high proportion of German-language instruction. The professorship is expected to actively participate in the further internationalization of the curriculum, the curricular development of the program, and quality assurance of the specialization within their discipline. The university places great emphasis on research-oriented teaching.
We are seeking a team-oriented and dedicated research and leadership individual whose scientific expertise and visibility in solid wood research are demonstrated through active publication in international peer-reviewed journals and successful acquisition of external funding. The successful candidate will convincingly demonstrate how the wood science perspective can be combined with the forestry expertise available at the faculty to create joint research initiatives. Furthermore, the integration of the extensive infrastructure of the former “Wood Biology and Wood Products” department into the department’s future research is expected. Applicants should also possess a broad (international) scientific network and experience in staff management and teaching. Essential is a willingness to contribute to the further development of the faculty; experience in cooperation with industry partners is desirable.
The hiring requirements are set out in Section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in its currently valid version. Junior professors and other members of the university can generally only be considered for a professorship if they changed universities after completing their doctorate or have been engaged in academic work outside the appointing university for at least two years. The University of Göttingen, a foundation university, holds the right of appointment. Further details will be provided upon request.
