Laboratory Director for the Competence Unit for Evolutionary Experiments and the Central Laboratory

Your tasks:

  • Management of the CeTEB competence unit for evolution experiments as a DFG Core Facility, implementation of a usage concept, advising and supporting users’ experiments and supervising technical and scientific staff.
  • Proof-of-concept studies for new research approaches of the competence unit
  • Third-party funding acquisition for equipment infrastructure
  • Management of the CeTEB central laboratory, including the implementation of a usage concept such as occupational safety/health and safety measures and the supervision of technical and scientific staff.
  • Project management of the genetic engineering facility of the CeTEB central laboratory (S1 and S2)

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree in biology or a related field and a very good completed doctorate in the field of evolutionary research
  • Several years of experience in establishing high-throughput experiments
  • Safety-relevant expertise according to § 28 para. 2 of the Genetic Engineering Safety Ordinance (GenTSV)
  • Experience in the proper handling of hazardous chemicals and biological agents (e.g., human pathogens)
  • German language skills (level C2), English language skills (level C1)

  • Quick comprehension, analytical thinking skills, a structured and proactive approach
  • Teamwork skills and excellent communication skills
  • High level of cooperation skills with colleagues from various areas of the university
  • Working independently

Desirable features include:

  • Knowledge of applying for large equipment and/or generally of raising third-party funding
  • Expertise and experience in the field of data management and electronic lab notebooks
  • Knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research, ideally with different groups of organisms
  • Experience in managing employees
