Research Associate position in Agricultural Entomology

The Division of Agricultural Entomology investigates interactions between crops and insects, with a particular focus on chemical ecology and insect behavior. Its research spans both fundamental and applied questions with the aim of developing sustainable strategies for crop protection.
The position offers the opportunity for advanced academic qualification (habilitation or equivalent) and will initially be filled on a fixed-term basis for 3 years, with the option to extend for an additional 3 years following a positive interim evaluation.

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, agricultural sciences, or forestry sciences.
  • Excellent PhD, preferably in plant-insect interactions or a closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience in a relevant research area.
  • Strong publication record in renowned, peer-reviewed Q1 journals, particularly after the PhD.
  • Methodological hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, metabolomics, insect behavior, or AI-based phenotyping.
  • Very good command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of German would be an asset.
  • Proven success in acquiring third-party funding, such as project grants, fellowships, or consumables funding.
  • Experience in university teaching and in the supervision of students.

Your tasks

  • Establish and lead an independent research program in agricultural entomology / chemical ecology with the goal of habilitation or an equivalent qualification.
  • Acquire competitive third-party funding to support your research.
  • Supervise and mentor early-career researchers, including doctoral candidates and Master’s and Bachelor’s students.
  • Design and deliver teaching in agricultural entomology at Bachelor’s and Master’s level in English (4 hours per week during semester).
  • Contribute actively to academic self-governance and committee work.
