We are seeking to fill a permanent, full-time position (39.83 hours/week) as soon as possible .
Animal caretaker or veterinary assistant (m/f/d)
Ruhr University Bochum is consolidating its decentralized animal facilities into the new Core Facility for Animal Research (CoFAR). The primary work location for this position is the central animal facility of the Faculty of Medicine, which is part of CoFAR and focuses on the housing and care of laboratory animals. If needed, the position may also be assigned to the new THINK research building, as well as other animal facilities on the main campus of Ruhr University Bochum, which will be consolidated in the new CoFAR building in the medium term.
Your tasks:
- Breeding, keeping and care of rodents
- Maintenance and upkeep of the facilities used for this purpose
- Maintaining documentation (both on paper and electronically)
- Recording of animals in databases
- Implementation of hygiene management (cleaning, disinfection, sentinel program)
- Daily health check of the stock
Your profile:
- Completed training as an animal caretaker (specializing in research and clinics, pet and boarding care, zoos) or veterinary assistant.
- Experience with genetically modified animals (S1 and S2 areas) is desirable.
- Experience with IVC (Individually ventilated cages) is desirable.
- Willingness to work weekends and public holidays
- Resilience and teamwork skills
- Good German skills, both spoken and written.
- Good English skills (desirable)
- Computer skills (desirable)

Employment is on a salaried basis and is governed by the collective agreement for public sector employees in the German states (TV-L). Salary classification will be determined based on the fulfillment of personal and collective agreement requirements. Please state your salary expectations in your application.
