The Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM) focuses on the use of modified biomolecules, cells, and cell products as new therapeutic agents, as well as the identification and study of suitable biomolecular and cellular targets for therapy and diagnostics. The division is also connected to the Karolinska ATMP Center. Our research efforts in the EL Andaloussi lab focus on one of the greatest challenges facing modern therapeutics; the delivery of macromolecules to target cells in vivo. Despite the unprecedented knowledge of diseases and their mechanisms due to advances in biomedical sciences; many promising therapeutic approaches are still clinically unavailable. This is simply because there is no efficient means of delivering these therapeutics to the right organ with the right dose. Our research performance involves developing novel and innovative drug delivery technologies that can carry proteins, RNAs, or gene editors to the target tissues safely and efficiently. Antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and siRNAs ´can be designed to suppress expression of any gene, including genes that drive cancer growth. This project focuses on exploiting antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates for selective delivery to prostate cancer cells, with the aim of improving therapeutic response and overcoming resistance. It also seeks to investigate underlying resistance mechanisms using integrative molecular profiling approaches, while maintaining a strong emphasis on translational relevance. Duties As a postdoctoral research scholar, you will work closely with team members to design and implement strategies for targeted delivery of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics, with a focus on antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates. A central aspect of the role will be to screen different antibody-ASO/siRNA conjugates for their ability to suppress growth of prostate cancer cells. This will be done in close collaboration with the chemistry team responsible for conjugate synthesis and optimization. You will establish and optimize experimental workflows to assess the activity and therapeutic impact of these conjugates, including their ability to modulate cellular responses and improve sensitivity to treatment. The work will involve correlating design parameters with functional outcomes in relevant in vitro systems and progressing toward in vivo validation. You will also participate in the design and execution of vivo studies, including xenograft models, to evaluate targeting efficiency and therapeutic efficacy. Entry requirements Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in oligonucleotide conjugate delivery and/or in vivo biodistribution studies. Key areas of expertise: In vitro characterization • Utilize relevant in vitro cancer models to assess targeting specificity, delivery efficiency, and therapeutic activity, including effects on treatment response. • Preferred but not required: Investigate mechanisms of cellular uptake and intracellular trafficking, including development of advanced analytical approaches. In vivo experiments • Extensive hands-on experience in mouse handling, including various administration routes (e.g., IV, IP) and procedures relevant to cancer models. • Experience in evaluating biodistribution and therapeutic molecules in vivo. • Preferred but not required: Experience with xenograft models, toxicity studies, and in vivo imaging (e.g., IVIS, bioluminescence, fluorescence). Molecular and cellular biology expertise • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and transfection techniques. • Expertise in quantitative assays to evaluate outcomes of in vitro and in vivo studies, such as gene expression analysis (RT-qPCR) and oligonucleotide detection methods (e.g., dPCR, SplintR). • Preferred but not required: Experience with flow cytometry for uptake analysis, single-cell approaches, and transcriptomic profiling (e.g., RNA sequencing, multi-omics). In addition, excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential. Your mission The Baranello Lab – Drawing from our expertise in the fields of topoisomerase and cancer biology, we aim to answer fundamental questions about how transcription, replication and DNA topology are functionally coordinated in human cells. We use state-of-the-art approaches to assess transcriptomic, epigenomic and replisomic profiles, as well as molecular biology, advanced microscopy and drug screens to understand how topoisomerase regulation affects fundamental nuclear processes (key lab references: Baranello et al. Cell 2016; Wiegard et al. Molecular Cell 2021; Das et al. Molecular Cell 2022; Cameron et al. Science Advances 2023, Cameron et al. Nat Comm 2026). The overall aim is to reveal novel cancer therapy targets and improved strategies for personalized treatment. Recently we have identified a protein complex called “topoisome” in which the oncoprotein MYC recruits and increases the catalytic activities of both Topoisomerase 1 and 2 to promote high rates of transcription (Das et al. Molecular Cell 2022). The successful candidate will play a leading role in a full-time research project funded by the European Research Council, focused to address the functional role of the topoisome during transcription. Specifically we want to study the coordination of the topoisome and the transcriptional machinery. The outcome of this work is predicted to inspire a new strategy to target MYC in cancer, which will be tested in MYC-driven cancer models. This multidisciplinary project involves master biochemistry, master molecular biology, proteomics/genomics, and computational analysis. PhD position in normal and malignant hematopoiesis

For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required. The research group Dahlin’s team focuses on charting basophil and mast cell differentiation at the single-cell level in health and hematologic diseases. This is performed using state-of-the-art single-cell omics technologies complemented with functional experiments. The current team consists of the principal investigator and four doctoral students, which together cover the areas of experimental research, bioinformatics, and applied mathematics. The group is part of the Division of Immunology and Respiratory Medicine. The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student The differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into the various blood cell lineages has been described with high precision. However, the basophil differentiation trajectory has yet to be charted in detail. The mission of the doctoral student project is to map basophil differentiation in health and hematologic disease. This includes studies of how progenitor cell fate is regulated at the molecular level during differentiation, and investigations of how disease-associated genetic alterations affect hematopoiesis and basophil development. Key technologies applied to primary samples from healthy subjects and patients with hematologic diseases include FACS sorting, flow cytometry-based analysis, CRISPR-based gene editing, cell culture and cell fate assays, cytochemical staining, and single-cell omics technologies, including transcriptomics and surface epitope profiling. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting, with both experimental and computational scientists. It also includes collaborations with clinical departments as well as national and international research groups. The main focus of the doctoral studies is experimental research, though the doctoral student will also be involved in omics data analysis performed together with bioinformaticians and applied mathematicians in the group. The research group of Dr. Ping Chen in the Division of Clinical Chemistry is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in RNA biology and wet-lab experiments. The Chen lab conducts systems biology to dissect the regulation of RNA diversity in human metabolic diseases, with the goal of advancing diagnostics and therapeutic strategies. The group works closely with multidisciplinary teams, integrating biobank resources, longitudinal clinical data, and multi-omics technologies with innovative computational approaches for biomarker discoveries. A two-year postdoctoral position will be available immediately in the Chen lab. Division The Division of Clinical Chemistry is carrying out research to elucidate the molecular basis of cardiometabolic disease integrating basic science, clinical medicine, and translational approaches. Duties The growing prevalence of obesity is increasing the global burden of metabolic disease. In this position, you will contribute to elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying obesity and related metabolic disorders, with a primary focus on RNA biology. You will design and perform wet-lab validation of biomarkers and regulatory mechanisms identified through high-throughput transcriptomic data analysis and apply perturbation strategies to link transcriptomic changes to functional phenotypes. You will work with human liver, adipose tissue and blood samples, as well as relevant cellular models. The role also includes maintaining rigorous experimental documentation and reproducible workflows, collaborating with clinical partners, contributing to figures and manuscript preparation, and communicating results through presentations and, where appropriate, through contributions to grant applications. Entry requirements To qualify for this position, applicants must: Hold a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology/metabolism, genetics, or a related field with strong experimental training. Demonstrate hands-on expertise in molecular biology, particularly in RNA biology, including RT-PCR/RT-qPCR and assay/primer design. Have proven experience with isoform-level validation and quantification (e.g., ddPCR and/or targeted sequencing is strongly advantage). Have solid experience working with relevant experimental systems, including human biopsy-derived material, flow cytometry, and mammalian cell culture, as well as strong skills in experimental design, troubleshooting, and the use of rigorous controls. Have experience with at least one perturbation platform (e.g., siRNA/shRNA, CRISPRi/a/editing, antisense oligonucleotides) and downstream molecular readouts. Postdoctoral Fellow position in Bioinformatics focusing on RNA biology and metabolic disease

The Department of Laboratory Medicine (Labmed) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research with direct relevance to human health, spanning fundamental biomedical science, biomarker discovery, diagnostic tool development, and advanced treatments such as cell and gene therapy. Labmed integrates patient-oriented clinical questions with technology development and practical implementation across seven divisions, and it also has a major educational mission at Karolinska Institutet. The research group of Dr. Ping Chen is now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in RNA splicing and computational method development. The Chen lab develops data-driven approaches to decipher RNA diversity and its regulatory mechanisms in human metabolic disease. A two-year postdoctoral position is available with a start date as soon as possible (or as agreed). Division The Chen lab is based in the Division of Clinical Chemistry, where research integrates contemporary basic science, clinical medicine, and translational approaches to understand the molecular basis of cardiometabolic disease. Duties The growing prevalence of obesity is increasing disease burden worldwide, with broad effects on population health and healthcare systems. Your work will contribute to a deeper mechanistic understanding of obesity and related disorders, with a primary focus on RNA splicing and isoform-level regulation. The postdoctoral researcher will: Develop and benchmark new bioinformatics tools and analysis pipelines Analyze large-scale bulk and single-cell sequencing data using reproducible workflows and interpret the results Collaborate closely with experimental and clinical partners to prioritize and validate key findings Maintain well-documented, reproducible code (e.g., version control, pipeline documentation) and contribute to supervision of students Communicate results through presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts, and contribute to grant applications Entry requirements To quality, the applicants must hold a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or a closely related field, and have strong knowledge of RNA biology and biomedical sciences. Experience with sequencing data preprocessing, RNA splicing, deep learning and analysis of human multi-omics data is an advantage. The candidate should exhibit a high degree of independence but on the other hand also value a collaborative approach to science and enjoy working in a team. Motivation, the ability to work with people of different disciplines, executive capacity and good communication skills in English are important. A strong publication track record and good manuscript writing skills are desirable. Type of scholarship Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. PhD position in precision cancer immunotherapy
