PhD position – Plant regeneration and development

Position: This position is open for a PhD candidate (starting or ongoing) under the supervision of Mgr. Markéta Pernisová, Ph.D., as part of the TowArds Next GENeration Crops (TANGENC) project, which focuses on novel breeding techniques for crop improvement. The research will primarily investigate the hormonal regulation of plant in vitro regeneration and shoot development. Additionally, the researcher will participate in the development of molecular tools and protocols for genome editing, transformation, and plant regeneration. Developing and improving plant genetic engineering resources – such as transgenics and genome editing – requires the collaborative efforts of multiple groups with complementary expertise. Our team members have extensive experience managing research projects and teams, maintaining international collaborations, and publishing in high-impact scientific journals. Senior Researcher / Staff Scientist

About this position The Bioinformatics Core Facility at CEITEC works on the infrastructure for storing, sharing, and – above all – performing federated analysis on sensitive genomic and other omics data across Europe. Through the ELIXIR research infrastructure and initiatives such as the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI), the 1+Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative, and Genome of Europe, we are one of the major players in this field in Europe. This is highly collaborative, distributed work. Much of it does not happen within a single lab but across a network of partners – institutional IT teams, national infrastructure bodies, and collaborators across Europe – and our role is to coordinate and integrate these efforts, keeping them moving. A growing and increasingly important part of the work is enabling AI, and in particular agentic AI systems, to operate safely on sensitive data within this distributed infrastructure, in service of translational and clinical research and the wider handling of sensitive healthcare data. We are looking for a senior, independent researcher / staff scientist to take a leading technical role across these projects – someone who can drive their own work, coordinate and mentor more junior colleagues, and act as a confident point of contact with our partners. This is a highly visible, Europe-wide role at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and the life sciences, and it is fundamentally about handling a complex, multi-party effort rather than working in isolation. Your profile Must-have: A PhD (or equivalent experience). We have no hard requirement on the specific field, provided it falls within the range from bioinformatics through to computer science and IT/software development, or a closely related technical area Solid, hands-on experience spanning bioinformatics analysis and workflows, bioinformatics infrastructure and software for data analysis, and/or broader IT and software development, in a rapidly evolving environment where AI is becoming inherent to everything we do; experience with omics and multi-omics data is a strong plus. PhD Candidate: How do viruses hijack the cell’s protein factory

We’re excited to announce an open PhD student position in Gabriel Demo’s Research Group! About this position:  Are you fascinated by viruses, ribosomes, and cutting-edge structural biology techniques? Join our team at CEITEC Masaryk University and investigate how viruses coordinate genome replication with protein synthesis inside infected cells. Viruses rely entirely on host cells to produce their proteins. Recent advances in cryo-electron microscopy have revealed the architecture of viral replication/transcription complexes, but how these molecular machines communicate with the host translation machinery during infection is still an open question. In this project, you will uncover how viral replication complexes interact with host ribosomes and translation factors to promote efficient viral gene expression. Using an interdisciplinary approach that combines molecular virology, biochemistry, quantitative proteomics, and structural biology, you will explore the molecular interface between viruses and the cellular translation machinery. This PhD project offers comprehensive training in structural biology, molecular virology, and translation while providing access to high-end cryo-EM infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaborations. You will develop expertise in advanced biochemical, cellular, and structural techniques, and contribute to fundamental discoveries at the interface of virology and translation.
