Last date to apply: 10.02.2026 Number of Positions: 01 Full-time,37.5 hours per week Fixed term three year position starting March 2026 Āu Mahi | What You Will Do School of Biological Sciences has an opportunity for a Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in a research project, Unlocking a New Genetic Tool to Protect Honeybees and Advance Biotechnology. We seek a highly motivated individual with a research background in Microbial Genetics and or Molecular Evolution. In this role you will undertake research to examine a mobile genetic element found in the honey bee pathogen Paenibacillus larvae. Specifically, you will work to develop and validate methods for assessing the molecular functioning and fitness effects of this element.  You will have completed a PhD in Biology or a closely related subject. To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication skills and written English, strong quantitative and data analysis skills, the ability to work creatively and independently, and a strong research background. You will applicant will be mentored by Associate Professor Heather Hendrickson and located within the School of Biological Sciences. The position will also involve extensive collaboration with project partners in Biochemistry and the Bioeconomy Science Institute. PhD position – Investigate deleterious genetic variation in mongooses

The position to be filled is located in the Department of Evolutionary Population Genetics. Research of such department combines classical population genetics, state-of-the-art genomic approaches and long-term field studies of wild populations to deepen the understanding of the fundamental evolutionary processes underlying biological diversity and its conservation in times of rapid environmental change. The current research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) aims to investigate deleterious genetic variation in mongooses. The research group of Prof. Hellmich at the Cluster of Excellence “Balance of the Microverse” invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Membrane Structural Biology commencing on July 1, 2026 or upon agreement. We offer a full-time position (100%, 40 hours per week) at the University of Jena, offered as a fixed-term position for 2 years. You will investigate the conformational dynamics and structural principles that govern membrane proteins involved in microbial communication. Your primary focus will be transporters responsible for natural product extrusion and antibiotic resistance, as well as histidine kinases that mediate natural product sensing. Your research will draw on a versatile toolkit of biochemical, biophysical and microbiological methods, with particular attention to protein–protein, protein–lipid and protein–ligand interactions. Working closely with colleagues in the community, you will map the allosteric signaling networks within multidomain membrane proteins and use these insights to derive general mechanisms that address fundamental biological questions.
