We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Dr Herzog at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, University of Cambridge, located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of epigenomics research. You will play a central role in developing and optimising protocols for nucleic acid extraction for existing and novel technical approaches, including single-cell and long-read methodologies, to study ageing of diverse tissues. Your work will have an impact in shaping how these approaches are implemented within the team, working closely with Dr Herzog as well as internal and external collaborators. Research Assistant – Advanced mRNA Therapeutics (Fixed Term)

Advanced mRNA therapeutics offer a powerful way to transiently express proteins that can reshape immune signalling in vivo. This role will focus on designing and manufacturing modified mRNAs encoding proteins that modulate IL-6 signalling, and testing their biological activity in cellular and animal models. We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant to work across mRNA therapeutic design, in vitro transcription, lipid nanoparticle formulation, immune signalling assays and in vivo mouse experiments, with the aim of defining whether engineered mRNA medicines can be used to tune IL-6-dependent immune responses for therapeutic benefit. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of technical independence across the full experimental workflow: design and production of IVT mRNA constructs, capping and polyadenylation, LNP formulation, in vitro testing of IL-6 pathway activity, and in vivo assessment in mouse models. Candidates must have a degree in a relevant biological science The role requires a strong practical understanding of mRNA therapeutic development, IL-6 biology and animal experimentation, including current UK Home Office personal licence authority and demonstrable expertise in mouse handling. Research Assistant at Medical Research Council Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MRC MBU)

The Medical Research Council Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MRC MBU), University of Cambridge, wishes to appoint a Research Assistant to join Prof. Edmund Kinji’s group. A world-renowned centre for research, the MRC MBU is a vibrant community focused on the involvement of mitochondria and their dysfunction in an ever-increasing range of human diseases. The Mitochondrial Carriers group investigates how mitochondrial transport processes contribute to cellular homeostasis and how dysfunction of mitochondrial transport steps lead to disease. A key focus is on Citrin Deficiency (CD), a complex metabolic disorder caused by the absence of dysfunction of the mitochondrial aspartate/glutamate carrier (AGC2 or citrin). Our group uses cellular and murine models to uncover the metabolic consequences of CD, aiming to develop new therapeutic strategies. Research Assistant position under the project entitled “Mechanisms of inflammatory memory in the human respiratory mucosa”

We are inviting applications for a talented and hard-working Research Assistant to contribute to an exciting Medical Research Council funded translational project with Respiratory Clinician Scientist Dr Akhilesh Jha (https://www.hlri.cam.ac.uk/staff/dr-akhilesh-jha) in collaboration with Professor Clare Bryant (https://www.hlri.cam.ac.uk/staff/professor-clare-bryant) The research project titled “Mechanisms of inflammatory memory in the human respiratory mucosa” will seek to develop unique and innovative human experimental medicine inhaled challenge models for investigating the molecular drivers of immune responses in the lungs of healthy individuals and those with asthma. The aim of the research is to develop novel approaches for treating airway inflammation. The work will involve the handling, processing and storing human samples including sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, respiratory mucosal tissue, epithelial cells and blood. A range of experimental techniques involving primary cell culture including at Air-Liquid Interface (ALI), ELISA, Flow cytometry and preparatory steps for advanced molecular biology tools such as single-cell RNA seq, ATAC-seq and spatial transcriptomics. CG-TIC Postdoctoral Research Associate – Respiratory Epithelial Models for COPD

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a GSK-funded, cross-disciplinary project led by Professor Clare Bryant to develop advanced human respiratory epithelial models for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The successful candidate will join the Cambridge- GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (GC-TIC), a new translational initiative between Cambridge and GSK focused on renal and respiratory diseases of high unmet medical need. CG-TIC aims to deliver impact to patients while advancing the GSK pipeline and supporting research in Cambridge. This role will contribute to our ongoing research on mechanisms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). COPD remains an incurable, progressive respiratory disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation and chronic airway inflammation. Historically, the development of effective therapeutics has been constrained by a lack of biomimetic, multi-cellular human models. CG-TIC Postdoctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated researcher to work on a Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC) project. CG-TIC is a new translational initiative between Cambridge and GSK focused on renal and respiratory diseases. It will leverage the world-class capabilities of Cambridge and GSK, targeting diseases of high unmet medical need, with the aim of delivering impact to patients while advancing the GSK pipeline, and supporting research in Cambridge. The successful applicant will be part of the Respiratory Mechanisms of Disease theme and will join the research group of Professor James Nathan, based in the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, in collaboration with Professor Michal Minczuk at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit. You will also be part of the CG-TIC and will join a growing team of researchers supporting this collaboration. The work will investigate how mitochondrial dysfunction and mtDNA damage drive innate immune activation and contribute to chronic inflammation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), using a primary human airway air¿liquid interface (ALI) platform. A central aim is to define how mitochondrial metabolic dysfunction shapes innate immune responses, and to identify the molecular mechanisms by which damaged mtDNA is sensed by the innate immune system. This programme is a close collaboration between the Nathan Laboratory and the Minczuk Group, combining expertise in mitochondrial metabolism and innate immunity with state-of-the-art mitochondrial genome engineering tools, and is conducted in partnership with GSK. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mitochondrial biology, cell metabolism, or innate immunology, with hands-on experience of primary human cell culture and quantitative molecular biology. Experience with approaches to assess mitochondrial function, mtDNA biology, or innate immune signalling pathways is highly desirable, as is familiarity with genomics or sequencing-based methods. A collaborative outlook and the ability to work effectively across a large academic¿industry partnership, including with the Minczuk Group, GSK, and other CG-TIC researchers, will be essential to success in this role.
