Location: Flemingsberg Description of the subject area  The Infection and Immunity track focuses on the immunopathogenesis of viral and bacterial diseases of major clinical relevance, while advancing fundamental understanding of the human immune system. Research integrates state-of-the-art single-cell and systems-level approaches, including transcriptomics, proteomics, and high-dimensional analyses, with human cell-based, tissue-resolved, and antigen-specific model systems. Access to well-characterized patient cohorts, prospective clinical studies, and biobank resources enables direct investigation of host–pathogen interactions in human samples and supports mechanism-informed translational discoveries relevant to precision medicine. The Metabolism, Liver Disease, and Nutrition track addresses molecular, cellular, physiological, and behavioral mechanisms underlying immunometabolic homeostasis and its disruption in cardiometabolic and metabolic liver diseases, obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and nutrition-related disorders. Research integrates human-centric experimental, computational, and interventional approaches, including single-cell and multi-omics analyses, metabolic phenotyping, imaging, advanced cell and organotypic models, relevant animal models, and population-based studies in epidemiology and nutrition. Research assistant position in AI-driven cancer bioinformatics

We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant to join our research group in cancer bioinformatics at Karolinska Institutet. Our research combines artificial intelligence, digital pathology and cancer genomics to increase the understanding of tumor biology and identify biomarkers that can improve patient care. In this project, you will work with large-scale histopathological imaging and genomics data and use advanced computational methods to study cancer-related biological processes and cancer hallmarks in healthy and tumor tissues. You will be part of an interdisciplinary and international research environment at BioClinicum where you will work closely with researchers in cancer biology, bioinformatics and computer science. Your role You will work in a research project that uses artificial intelligence and computational pathology methods to study cancer biology using large-scale histopathological and genomic datasets. The project uses publicly available resources such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue GTEx) to investigate cancer hallmarks in healthy and tumor tissues. The work includes analysis of digital pathology images, application and evaluation of deep learning models, integration of imaging and genomics data, and statistical analysis of clinical outcomes. You will contribute to the development of computational workflows in Python and R and perform analyses using high-performance computing resources. Who are you? The research group of Dr. Ping Chen is now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in RNA splicing and computational method development. The Chen lab develops data-driven approaches to decipher RNA diversity and its regulatory mechanisms in human metabolic disease. PhD position in translational immunology with a focus on age-related differences in immune response to viral infection

Research group The successful candidate will join an international and committed research group of preclinical and clinical researchers conducting experimental and translational research to understand disease-driving mechanisms in inflammatory lung diseases and viral respiratory infections. Our studies use innovative techniques such as spectral flow cytometry, spatial and single-cell sequencing on unique, clinically well-characterized patient samples from cohorts that we follow longitudinally. We have large biobanks with blood and tissue samples from both patients and healthy controls. We have also established 3D model systems to study interactions between immune cells and airway epithelium. The doctoral project and the doctoral student’s tasks We are looking for a PhD student to work on age-related differences in immune responses in the blood and respiratory tract during influenza virus infection to understand what regulates the severity of the disease. In our research, we use clinically well-characterized, longitudinal patient samples from blood and tissues that we collect during the influenza season and perform high-resolution immunological analyses with e.g. spectral flow cytometry, proteomics and functional analyses. We can then link experimental data to clinical outcome to understand which immune responses are associated with good or poor prognosis, and how this differs depending on age. Specifically, the laboratory focuses on examining the role of T regulatory cells in severe asthma and its comorbidities, including bronchiectasis and obesity. Research Group The research group of Professor Staffan Strömblad is looking for up to two postdoctoral fellows who will be financed by a scholarship.  The group studies the role of mechanical forces in cancer development and progression. We combine in vitro models, transgenic mouse cancer models and patient samples with bioinformatics and quantitative image analysis.
