Specialist veterinarian for laboratory animal science

Your responsibilities:
• Coordination and communication with the relevant licensing and
supervisory authorities
• Veterinary care of laboratory animals and advice on species-appropriate husbandry and breeding
• Professional support for scientific staff in the planning and execution of animal experiments
• Ensuring compliance with legal regulations in the area of ​​animal husbandry and laboratory animals •
Participation in the animal welfare committee
• Training of staff in the field of laboratory animal science
• Conducting regular daily inspections on weekends and public holidays
• Participation in animal experiments, possibly also involving the use of radioactivity
• Preparation of the annual report according to §1 VersTierMeldV (German Ordinance on the Reporting of Laboratory Animals
) • Shared responsibility for the veterinary practice’s in-house pharmacy
• Conceptualization and establishment of laboratory animal facilities at the new location

Your profile:
• Completed university degree in veterinary medicine and veterinary license
• Several years of advanced training as a specialist veterinarian for laboratory animal science, or alternatively, a completed university degree in veterinary medicine, medicine, or a natural science field, as well as at least four years of relevant experience in the field of laboratory animal science Laboratory animal science (e.g., continuing education certificates for the required period
in the form of work references, letters of recommendation, etc.)
• “FELASA C” or “EU Field of Activity B” certificate
• Sound expertise in laboratory animal science and experience in collaborating with licensing and regulatory authorities, as well as sound knowledge of German

• Experience as an animal welfare officer is advantageous
• Practical experience in the management of rodent populations and in animal experimentation, particularly with imaging techniques
• Ideally, additional qualification as a biological safety officer
• Experience in handling unsealed radionuclides and radioactive sources is desirable
• Ideally, experience with aquatic laboratory animal facilities
• Strong sense of responsibility and commitment
