Research Associate position in the field of silviculture

The position focuses on research and teaching in the field of silviculture and is intended to cover the subject in its entire thematic and regional breadth. It is currently assigned to the Chair of Silviculture and Forest Ecology of the Tropics until the current holder retires, and subsequently to the Chair of Silviculture and Forest Ecology. The position includes a teaching load of 10 semester hours per week in the areas of silviculture of temperate zones and silviculture of the tropics and subtropics. A clear vision for the (further) development of an independent research focus, a willingness to work independently, and a passion for sharing knowledge through teaching are expected.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Forest Sciences and a completed doctorate in the field of silviculture. A key selection criterion is a demonstrable, independent teaching and research profile in silviculture, represented by thematically relevant third-party funding acquisitions, publications, field or practical experience, as well as teaching and mentoring experience.
 
Additional requirements:

  • in-depth knowledge of forestry in both the tropics and the temperate zone
  • Proven ability to independently publish in international journals with publications as first and last author on silvicultural issues in forests of the tropics and temperate zones
  • Independently acquired third-party funded projects on silvicultural issues in forests of the tropics and temperate zones
  • Proven long-term teaching experience in the field of temperate silviculture and tropics and subtropics, both in German and English.
  • many years of experience in supervising theses and doctoral candidates
  • Proven experience in planning and conducting research stays lasting several months, including in the tropics
  • in-depth knowledge of the acquisition, processing and evaluation of forest inventory data and data for forest structure recording through terrestrial laser scanning
  • in-depth knowledge of complex statistical methods and their application in R or a similar language
  • Fluent German and English skills, both spoken and written.
  • Experience in international collaborations
