Website Karolinska Institutet
Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?
We are looking for a bioinformatician to join our research activities in molecular pathology and sarcoma genomics at Karolinska Institutet. The group conducts translational research with a focus on integrated analysis of whole genome sequencing (WGS), RNA sequencing, methylation profiling and digital pathology for diagnostics and biological characterization of mesenchymal tumors. The position involves close collaboration between bioinformatics, molecular pathology and clinical activities in an international research environment.
Your role
The tasks include analysis and development of bioinformatic workflows for large-scale genomic and transcriptomic data from tumor material, primarily sarcoma and other mesenchymal tumors. The work includes:
- Analysis of WGS, WTS and methylation data from tumor samples
- Detection and interpretation of structural variants, copy number changes, gene fusions and somatic mutations
- Development and maintenance of reproducible bioinformatics pipelines in Linux/HPC environment
- Integration of molecular data with histopathological and clinical data
- Participation in translational research projects and scientific publishing
- Collaboration with pathologists, clinical geneticists and experimental researchers
Who are you?
Claim:
- PhD in bioinformatics, molecular genetics, cancer genomics or a related field
- Documented experience in independent analysis of DNA and RNA sequencing data from tumor material
- Documented experience in independent somatic variant analysis, including structural variants and gene fusions
- You can independently work with large-scale NGS data in a Linux-based HPC environment
- Good programming skills in R and/or Python
- Experience in translational cancer research and working in multidisciplinary projects
- Very good ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written.
Merit:
- Experience in sarcoma research or mesenchymal tumors with knowledge of tumor genomics
- Experience with copy number analysis, long-read sequencing or single-cell data
- Experience in clinically oriented molecular diagnostics
- Experience with bioinformatics workflows for fusion detection and structural variant analysis
Personal qualities will be given great importance. We are looking for someone who is analytical, structured and has a good ability to work independently in complex research projects. You need to be able to run bioinformatic analyses from raw data to biological and interpretation and have a good ability to prioritize and document your work. The position also requires good collaboration skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary environments together with pathologists, clinical geneticists, bioinformaticians and experimental researchers. Experience of contributing to method development, scientific publications and support for junior researchers is an asset.
