The position

The position primarily involves research on inflammatory kidney diseases and mechanisms that may be essential to the pathogenesis of these conditions. You will be analysing various substances in peripheral blood, such as cytokines and DNA, as well as isolating and culturing cells in vitro to study immune cell functions. Your work will include analysing and presenting experimental results, handling clinical data, and contributing to manuscript writing.

As a principal research engineer, your main duties will consist of conducting research, with opportunities to develop your own research projects. The position may also include supervision and teaching.

The person we need

We are looking for someone who is independent, proactive, well‑organized, and detail-oriented in their work, and who is motivated to learn new methods and approaches. You communicate easily and work well with others, and you have excellent ability to express yourself in spoken and written English.

The following education, experience and expertise are required:

  • A completed PhD in biomedicine, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of immunology, biomedicine, and experience of working with human immune cells.
  • Proficiency in, and ability to establish, techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, cell culture, cell isolation, immunofluorescence microscopy, and PCR.

In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:

  • Prior experience in kidney research or a closely related field.

The workplace

You will be working at the Division of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (DISP) (https://liu.se/en/organisation/liu/hmv/disp) and the Unit of Internal Medicine Sciences. The position is affiliated with the Ingrid Asp Center for Kidney Research (https://liu.se/en/research/ingrid-asp-kidney-research-center). The center conducts patient‑oriented kidney research with the aim of advancing knowledge about disease mechanisms and identifying new and more effective treatments.

The center serves as a hub for clinicians and biomedical researchers, strengthening kidney research through local collaborations as well as national and international partnerships. We also work actively to disseminate knowledge about the impact of kidney diseases on public health and regularly organize seminar series and symposia at the center.

The employment

The position is a full‑time, permanent appointment (100%). A probationary period may be applied.

The start date will be by agreement.
