At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology is currently seeking a talented and motivated researcher, to be based at the Department of Physiology. The candidate will investigate molecular mechanisms of brain injury and the development of neuroprotective treatments. The candidate will play a key role in a translational research project at the forefront of the field of perinatal neuroscience.

Duties

The duties include surgical techniques in whole animal models. In addition, they include animal behavioral testing, histological and immunohistochemical methods, molecular biology, analysis of mitochondrial function and morphology, 3D image analysis using light and fluorescence microscopy, in samples from newborn mice. Teaching in circulatory physiology and limited administrative tasks are also included.

Qualifications

The applicant must hold a PhD in medical science, biotechnology, or biomedicine and have at least two years of postdoctoral experience. The ideal candidate has a theoretical background in neuroscience and perinatal physiology, as well as solid practical experience with qPCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, microscopic image analysis, and extensive experience in breeding and working with newborn transgenic mice.

A documented track record of scientific publications in the field is considered an advantage.

Good collaboration and communication skills are required. Excellent oral and written proficiency in English are required.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as agreed.
