Do you want to contribute to better health for all?
The Hausser Lab at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab studies the dynamics of healthy and tumor tissues, combining computational biology, systems biology, and cancer immunology in an international, English-speaking environment. As a research assistant, you will work on a focused, well-scoped project with a clear scientific goal: bringing a single-cell tissue-dynamics analysis to publication in a leading scientific journal. You will gain hands-on experience in statistical inference, scientific writing, and rigorous computational research, with active mentoring throughout.
Your mission
Statistical analysis of tissue-dynamics inferences (proliferation, death, turnover rates) derived from single-cell RNA-sequencing atlases.
- Performing hypothesis testing across tissues, ages, sexes, and experimental conditions
- Revealing systemic trends in tissue dynamics
- Integrating results into an ongoing manuscript
- Documenting analysis pipelines for reproducibility
- Contributing to figure preparation and scientific writing
Your profile
Required:
- Master’s degree in biomedicine, bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or a related life-sciences field with substantial computational training
- Programming experience in R and/or Python, including single-cell analysis frameworks (Seurat, Scanpy, or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience analyzing cellular dynamics (proliferation, cell death, turnover, or trajectories) from single-cell RNA-sequencing data, using established computational frameworks
- Working knowledge of applied statistics and a clear interest in deepening skills in statistical inference (hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, regression)
- Good scientific English, written and spoken
- Self-driven and structured, able to manage a clearly scoped project independently
Meriting:
- Experience with tissue-dynamics inference methods (e.g., TIDYI) for estimating cell proliferation and turnover from single-cell RNA-sequencing data
- Experience with trajectory inference (Monocle3 or equivalent) or gene co-expression network analysis (hdWGCNA or equivalent)
- Familiarity with the Linux command line
- Experience contributing to scientific manuscripts
- Familiarity with version control (git)
