The Genetic Toxicology research group, led by Kristian Dreij, is seeking a motivated research assistant.
Our group focuses on understanding how complex chemical mixtures in environmental pollutants contribute to cancer and related diseases. The insights gained from this research aim to lay the foundation for the development of new preventive strategies. The Genetic Toxicology research group is part of the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), which is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institute in the broad field of environmental medicine.
The position as a research assistant is full-time and limited to 3 months, based at the Institute of Environmental Medicine.
Your mission
Main responsibilities include:
- Maintenance of cell cultures, including co-cultures.
- Preparation and handling of air particle samples and their organic extracts
- Conducting flow cytometry-based analyses, including micronuclei and cell signaling experiments
- Conducting microplate-based analyses, including multiplex analyses of cytokines
Your profile
We are looking for a curious and driven individual with a genuine interest in research and solid practical laboratory experience. It is particularly advantageous if you are currently pursuing a master’s degree in toxicology. We place great importance on personal suitability.
Requirements:
- Solid and documented experience in all four methodological areas mentioned under main duties above
- Strong organizational skills
- Clear and effective communication
- Proactive attitude and ability to take initiative
- Willingness to participate in critical scientific discussions and to respectfully challenge ideas
Desirable:
- Knowledge of and prior experience in toxicology related to airborne particles and their chemistry
- Experience analyzing data from multiplex and flow cytometry analyses
