Technical Assistant position in in the field of cardiovascular medicine

The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis for two years (with the option of extension). Salary classification will be based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-GU).

We are looking for a team-oriented and independent employee with a passion for basic medical research in the field of cardiovascular medicine. The internationally successful institute investigates key mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases in the search for promising, innovative therapeutic approaches.

Tasks:

  • Description of new mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and development of treatment options
  • Histological examinations including embedding of organs, preparation of sections, establishment of immunofluorescence staining protocols, confocal microscopy and evaluation of stained preparations
  • Cell isolation and processing from human blood samples
  • Working with cell cultures, various primary cells from mouse and human (including whole blood and heart tissue, cell lines and organoids)
  • Handling laboratory animals, especially mice
  • Utilization of various molecular and cell biological techniques, including FACS, ELISA, PCR, Western blot, and functional cell culture assays.
  • Independent recording and partial analysis of collected data

General and technical requirements:

  • You have successfully completed training as a state-certified technical assistant (MTA/BTA/CTA), ideally with experience in demanding experimental research.
  • They enjoy cutting-edge experimental research in a laboratory environment with innovative technologies and are convincing as a team player in a multidisciplinary team.
  • They bring knowledge of cell and molecular biological methods (PCR and cloning, protein isolation and Western blot, flow cytometry, bacterial transformation, DNA purification, restriction digestion, gel electrophoresis, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, genotyping, DNA and RNA extraction, microscopy).
  • A FELASA certificate is desirable, as is experience in handling laboratory animals, especially mice.
  • They possess good oral and written skills in German and English.
  • They also impress with their reliability, motivation, sense of responsibility, thorough work ethic and initiative.
