The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön (Germany, Schleswig-Holstein) is an internationally oriented institution whose research focuses on the principles, mechanisms and effects of evolutionary change. Around 200 employees from more than 30 nations currently work at our institute in the departments of Theoretical Biology and Microbial Population Biology, as well as in several independent research groups.

The Genome Facility at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön is seeking to fill a position (full-time) of Bioinformatician (m/f/d) to support and expand our core facility services.

The position is offered at the E13 TVöD-Bund level and will initially be limited to two years, with the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent position based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., Illumina, PacBio)
  • Development and maintenance of data processing pipelines
  • Support and consultation for researchers on experimental design and data interpretation
  • Close collaboration with the Applications Specialist and other core facility staff

Requirements

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related discipline with a minimum of five years post-PhD experience
  • Strong command of Unix/Linux systems and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash)
  • Experience in routine genome-data management and analysis
  • Ability to produce tailor-made solutions to non-standard problems
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
