Bioinformatician position in ‘epigenetic and transcriptional reprogramming in early embryos’

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried near Munich is one of the world’s leading international research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, and biomedical research. With around 27 scientific departments and research groups and about 680 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.

In the department “Totipotency” (Dr. Kikuë Tachibana), a position is available for a Bioinformatician (m/f/d).

The laboratory is looking for a talented bioinformatician who will share the fascination with epigenetic and transcriptional reprogramming in early embryos with his/her lab colleagues. The key research aim is to understand the mechanisms of chromatin reprogramming and gene regulation that underlie the establishment of totipotency during mammalian development.

The successful applicant will contribute to understanding these mechanisms by analyzing transcriptomic, epigenetic, multi-omic and chromatin conformation capture data obtained from ultra-low input or single-cell samples. He/she will work closely with experimental scientists and the NGS core facility hosted within the Department. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to research projects from experimental design, through data analysis including methods development, to interpretation of the data.

Who you are

We are looking for a motivated, creative team player who enjoys working on interdisciplinary projects in a dynamic research field in an international environment. You will have a profound understanding of deep-sequencing technology and experience with analysis of multi-omic and single-cell data.

Our requirements

• PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent experience in a related field
• Expertise in multi-omic data analysis is essential
• Previous experience in single-cell genomic data analysis is advantageous
• Expertise in programming and statistical analysis, ideally in Python, R and/or other high-level programming languages, is essential
• Proficiency with high-performance clusters and Linux OS with in-depth IT skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Fluency in English
