Reseacher in textile recycling using synthetic biology approaches – THREADS project (60 %)

About the Job We have a vacancy for a three years 60% researcher position at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, NTNU. The position is linked to THREADS, an RCN-funded project on textile recycling by sustainable biotechnology-based approaches. THREADS aims to develop biotechnology-centred routes for converting textile waste, including polycotton and polyester/cotton blends, into higher-value biodegradable polymers such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs).  The researcher will contribute to the synthetic biology activities in the project, with emphasis on engineering bacterial production hosts for conversion of textile-derived feedstocks into PHAs. A central part of the work will involve engineering and characterising Cupriavidus necator and, where relevant, alternative bacterial hosts for utilisation of sugars and PET depolymerisation products such as terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol.  The position is suitable for a candidate with a Master’s degree and solid hands-on experience in molecular biology, microbial genetics and bacterial cultivation. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers working on enzyme discovery/engineering, polymer depolymerisation, analytics, bioprocess development and sustainability assessment.  Applicants are also encouraged to apply for the 40% administrative coordinator position in the EU-funded AIMARIA project ( Link to the announcement). Candidates who meet the criteria for both positions are welcome to apply for both. Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.  About the project  The NTNU University Museum is looking for an energetic and ambitious genomicist with excellent organizational and communication skills. This three-year postdoctoral position is part of the Norwegian Research Council-funded project HoloCamp, which aims to better understand the role of host-microbe interactions in the different susceptibility of faster- and slower-growing chicken breeds to Campylobacter infection, which has potentials for zoonotic transmission to consumers through poultry meat. The project also aims to advance understanding of host-microbe interactions in the gut of farmed chickens, determine how the metabolic capacities of gut microbiota contribute to chicken growth rates in the presence and absence of Campylobacter, and potentially develop an applied microbiome transplantation solution for reducing chickens’ Campylobacter susceptibility.  The postdoc will have a leading role in the large-scale multi-omics (“hologenomic”) data analysis to integrate/synthesize the genomic, transcriptomic, metagenomic, and potentially meta-transcriptomic sequencing data alongside phenotypic and other veterinary data generated by project partners at NMBU. This integration could involve conducting statistical and computational modelling analyses, including differential gene expression analysis, microbiome diversity analyses, host–microbiome association testing, metagenome-wide association analyses (mGWAS), hierarchical Bayesian community modelling, and integration of microbial functional traits with host phenotypes. The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. The position is based at the NTNU University Museum in Trondheim with Prof. Michael D. JOB SUMMARY The Research Associate is responsible for conducting research, contributing to manuscript writing and grant development, providing advice and supervision to staff and trainees in the Appel-Cresswell lab, and supervising day-to-day operations of the Appel-Cresswell lab at the UBC Centre for Brain Health.   ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS The UBC Division of Neurology is one of the largest divisions within the Department of Medicine, and spans many activities in clinical, research and educational spheres. The majority of these activities are conducted at Vancouver General Hospital, UBC Hospital, Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre, BC Children Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. It is nationally and internationally recognized for its clinical and research programs in multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders including dementias, motor neuronal disease, Parkinson’s disease and stroke. The Division of Neurology is consistently successful in obtaining peer reviewed grant funding from agencies in Canada and internationally. Divisional members make important contributions to both basic neuroscience and clinical neurological literature. Faculty members are actively involved in teaching and supervising all levels of students and trainees from undergraduate to postgraduate students, clinical and research fellows. The Residency Training Program in Neurology is the one of the largest in the country.   The Research Associate reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Silke Appel-Cresswell. The incumbent liaises with staff and trainees in the Appel-Cresswell lab, the Borgland Family Brain and Tissue DNA Bank at the UBC Centre for Brain Health, and collaborating labs at UBC and beyond. The Research Associate supports, trains and provides functional direction to Undergraduate, Graduate, and Postgraduate students as well as other staff working in the lab.   WORK PERFORMED Establish, implement and lead clinical research projects, including lifestyle interventions, biomarker studies, and data registries for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Create project plans, including milestones and financial projections; monitors progress to ensure that project priorities and timelines are met. Direct the generation and analysis of research data, and coordinate presentation of complex data in meetings, conferences and publications. Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Department of Medical Genetics

Research Associate in plant pathology, molecular biology

This position has an initial appointment until December 31, 2028. Location –   This role is in-person primarily at North Campus, Edmonton and various sites in Edmonton. Position Summary This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong expertise in plant pathology, molecular biology, quantitative genetics, and statistical analysis to contribute to cutting-edge research on economically important diseases affecting field crops in the Canadian Prairies, including canola, soybean, and pulse crops. The successful candidate will be engaged in an integrative research program that combines field, greenhouse, and laboratory approaches to advance our understanding of pathogen biology, host–pathogen interactions, and the environmental drivers of soilborne and vascular diseases. A key focus of the role is the development of practical, science-based disease management strategies that directly support sustainable agricultural production. The incumbent will play a central role in designing, coordinating, and executing diverse research activities, ranging from large-scale field experiments and greenhouse pathogenicity assays to pathogen isolation, identification, and advanced molecular and genomic analyses. The position also involves robust quantitative data analysis using modern statistical tools such as R, ensuring high-quality interpretation and dissemination of research findings. In addition, the role supports collaborative initiatives between the University of Alberta and industry partners, including the evaluation of seed treatments, resistance screening programs, and innovative disease management technologies across multiple crops and pathogen systems. This dynamic team performs data analysis and prepares clinical reports for various blood cancer genomics tests including targeted DNA and RNA sequencing panels, IGHV somatic hypermutation analysis and NGS-based measurable residual disease assays. About the roleThe successful candidate will have experience with the above methods in addition to experience in diagnostic pathology. The role will primarily involve diagnostic reporting and other related activities, including regular participation in result review meetings, ongoing training and education, quality activities and service development.   RemunerationAs per the MEDICAL SCIENTISTS, PHARMACISTS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS (VICTORIAN PUBLIC SECTOR) (SINGLE INTEREST EMPLOYERS) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2021 – 2025  base salary range will be between  Grade 2 Level 1 [RY4] $94,478.80 to Grade 2 Level 4 [RY7] $106,906.80 based on years of experience.   About youYou will have a demonstrated ability to work and communicate cooperatively in a team including other scientists, senior scientists, pathologists, genetic counsellors, clinical staff and researchers. In addition to this you will have strong ability to present work, write protocols and maintain documentation whilst meeting the clinical expectations of clients.
