Postdoctoral Fellow position in leukemia microenvironment

Do you want to contribute to better treatment of leukemia? The selected candidate will be working and trained in Hong Qian group at the Center for hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM), the Department of Medicine Huddinge, Flemingsberg Campus. The vision of Hong Qian group is to dissect the role of leukemia niche in the development and therapy response of myeloid leukemia. The ultimate goal is to identify new niche- based therapeutic targets for better treatment outcome of the diseases. The group so far has been mainly focusing on the mesenchymal niche in myeloid leukemia in patients and mouse models. The group has identified a set of molecules that are dysregulated in leukemia niche. Among them, we have shown that laminin a4 chain (Lama4), a receptor-binding chain of extracellular matrix protein laminin isoforms, inhibits AML progression and relapse (Cai, et al., Blood, 2022; Sandhow et al, JEM 2023) and CXCL14, a chemokine, suppresses the survival of leukemia-initiating stem cells in chronic phase of chronic myeloid leukemia (Dolinska, Cai, Månsson et al., Blood 2023). Within this group you will have a unique opportunity to work closely together with cutting edge researchers and to contribute to high quality research on leukemic stem cell interactions with their niches. The main technologies used include multi-color flow cytometry, confocal imaging, lineage tracing, gene-editing,in vivoandin vitrostem cell assays including coculture and experimental transplantation, as well as advanced molecular tools including RNA sequencing, digital PCR and single cell PCR. Position duration: Applicants are invited to submit applications for 2- year postdoc position with possible extension of another 2 years. Duties and requirement The successful candidate will conduct a project focusing on the impact of one of already identified dysregulated niche factors in therapy response of acute and chronic myeloid leukemia under the supervision of the group leader (Prof. Hong Qian). In addition, the candidate is also expected to participate in collaborated projects and supervision of junior students in the group during her/his postdoc training. To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. We are looking for a highly self-motivated person with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology with a keen interest in leukemia microenvironment/niche and hematopoiesis in general. Experience in working with tumor microenvironment, multi-color flow cytometry, gene-editing, and mouse modeling is highly desired; and good ability to communicate in English (written and verbal) is required. The applicant must be able to work flexibly and in a high-paced research environment. It is considered as a merit if the applicant has experience in flow cytometry, imaging, laboratory animal work (as documented by FELASA C or equivalent) with at least 1-3 years hands on experience working with mice or bioinformatics analysis tools. Key responsibilities The main duties of the postdoc are to, plan, perform, document experiments and analyze data and report the findings in oral and written presentation, independently or under supervision of the group leader or group members. Postdoctoral Fellow position in vaccine immunology

Do you want to contribute to improving human health? One position is now open in Professor Karin Loré’s group for bioinformatical analyses to study mechanisms of action of vaccines. The overall focus of the research group is to investigate immune functions by which different vaccine formulations regulate immunity. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team at the Department of Medicine, Solna at Karolinska Institutet and study timely questions in close collaboration with the vaccine industry. The Loré laboratory has a variety of samples and comprehensive sequencing datasets from vaccine studies in place, providing an excellent foundation for candidates eager to quickly engage in advanced bioinformatic research and data-driven discovery. Duties The group’s studies focus on the generation of high quality and durable B cell and T cell responses by vaccination. This involves high resolution analyses of both early cell activation and gene modulation as well as of the B cell and antibody response including mapping of antibody specificities. The projects will have a special focus on mRNA vaccines and nanoparticle vaccines with different adjuvants. The bioinformatical analyses will employ samples obtained from clinical studies and non-human primate models and focus on bioinformatics preprocessing and analysis of single-cell and/or bulk RNA sequencing as well as adaptive immune receptor repertoire (AIRR; BCR/TCR) sequencing. The research program will partly be shaped to take into account the interests and experience of the candidate. The position will be based at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. We work in collaboration with academic partners, vaccine companies as well as funding agencies such as the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. Thus, the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with and learn various scientific and technical expertise from leading researchers in the vaccine field. The candidate is expected to learn and take part in experimental design, experimentation, presentation, and publication of results. In addition, he or she is expected to join research-related activities such as group meetings, departmental seminars, national/international meetings, as well as take part in routine work within our research team and help supervise students within the group. Entry requirements We are seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about exploring the principles of immune system function through cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches. The candidate applying must have a PhD degree in (bio)informatics, computer science, biochemistry, or a related discipline. Proven experience with some of the relevant bioinformatics approaches (such as R and Python programming, basic Bash scripting) and deep knowledge in the analysis of adaptive immune receptor repertoire (AIRR) sequencing are required. Using some of the world’s largest and most richly phenotyped and genotyped cohorts of individuals with ARFID and other eating disorders, you will conduct large-scale genomic analyses, including cross-disorder analyses and polygenic risk score–based risk prediction, in close collaboration with the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium Eating Disorders Working Group (PGC-ED). Your mission Sickness behavior refers to the coordinated set of behavioral changes and subjective experiences that occur during acute infections. In the field of psychoneuroimmunology, it is assumed that sickness behavior supports immune function as part of an adaptive response. Yet, this hypothesis has not been tested in humans. The aim of the current project is to examine how sickness behavior influences immune responses during a common cold, induced under controlled laboratory conditions. The PI of the project is Associate Prof Julie Lasselin. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for developing and coordinating the project, including writing ethics applications and study preregistration, leading participant recruitment and data collection, conducting statistical analyses, and disseminating findings in recognized international journals. The role may also include contributing to the preparation of research grant applications to support future studies.
