Dr Elizabeth Rosser is offering an exciting opportunity for a post-doc in Division of Medicine at UCL. This post will be funded by the Medical Research Foundation and Moorfields Eye Charity and will contribute to a large programme of work investigating the immunopathogenesis of childhood-onset arthritis and its associated uveitis. This post will be based in UCL’s Division of Medicine but will have opportunities to work across departments through strong collaborators within the UCL GOS ICH, and larger UK collaborative networks. About the role We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Rosser Group and contribute to ongoing research investigating immunopathogenesis of childhood-onset arthritis and associated uveitis. This project will perform high-dimensional analyses of precious samples (including joint and ocular tissues) collected from young people with these conditions, and utilise these data to inform in vivo modelling experiments aimed to better understand disease mechanisms. The primary aim of this role is to define immunological features associated with B cell dysfunction and uveitis risk (e.g. such as age-at-onset and anti-nuclear antibody positivity) in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). As part of this position, a particular focus will be on cellular interactions between B cells and other immune cell populations. This is a fixed-term, short-term position and would particularly suit a candidate interested in developing their own independent research direction. The successful applicant will be supported in generating preliminary data and preparing applications for external fellowship funding. This role is suitable for UCL sponsorship. PhD studentship – Measuring mycorrhizal diversity for monitoring change at landscape scale.

Location: Imperial College London and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.  Supervisors: Prof. Martin I. Bidartondo and Dr Guillaume Delhaye.  Project duration: 1 October 2026 – 30 September 2030.  Funding for: UK Students. The studentship is subject to UKRI eligibility criteria and will cover fees and stipend at UKRI rates for a maximum of 4 years full-time.  Deadline for application: Monday 1 June 2026, 5pm GMT.  Interviews: 19 June 2026.  Context: Mycorrhizal fungi are central to ecosystem processes such as plant nutrition and soil carbon sequestration. Different approaches exist to assess mycorrhizas in the environment, but the impact of these on assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services is unknown. This project will create synergy between the use of environmental data (Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment, ICP Forests, Nature Unlocked) to inform land management and the generation of high-resolution local data to evaluate, optimise and justify national and international mycorrhizal assessment, monitoring, restoration, nature-based solutions, climate-adaptation strategies and conservation. It will compare and refine approaches for environmental detection and quantification of mycorrhizal fungi, including first-, second- and third-generation DNA sequencing technologies for roots and soil across different UK habitats to examine, for example, the impact of intra-genomic variation on biodiversity metrics. It will also enable essential multi-locus genotyping, genet-size assessments, comparisons of roots versus soil hyphae versus ingrowth-bag hyphae, and may incorporate mycorrhizal enzyme assays, trait analyses, inoculum-potential bioassays, air-spore traps and rodent-dispersed spore traps.  Objectives:  1.  Characterise local fungal diversity across a mosaic of ecosystems (grassland and forests) at two English estates (60 and 12 acres) using environmental eukaryotic soil DNA, with a primary focus on mycorrhizal fungi.  2.  Quantify method-specific variation in biodiversity estimates by comparing different monitoring approaches (fruitbody surveys, DNA identification of mycorrhizas, soil DNA and/or spore traps).  3. Test seasonal variation in fungal community composition and diversity in soil, mycorrhizas/roots, fruitbodies and spores.  4. Benchmark local ecosystem diversity against comparable sites in southern England, including Kew’s Wakehurst Living Laboratory.  5. Characterise environmental conditions and ecosystem services, including soil chemistry (soil carbon and nutrients) and soil nutrient-cycling enzymes and their change through time.  Training opportunities: The student will receive training in collection of environmental data including DNA, fungal identification, molecular and statistical methods, and bioinformatics. They will be trained in field and laboratory work, including but not restricted to, DNA extraction, enzymatic measurement, qPCR, microscopy, root staining) and work closely with other projects within the Mycorrhizal Ecology Lab at RBG Kew. About us The Research Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is recognised as one of the foremost international centres for the study of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. Based in the department is the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC), a hub for clinical research into various forms of dementia. Our work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, and how best to support people with dementia and their families. In addition to our research, we also provide a cognitive disorders clinic within the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. About the role We are seeking a Research Assistant to join our Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) research team at the DRC, while primarily supporting a broader research programme focused on capturing the full spectrum of FTD-MND features using digital technologies. This role will focus on validating digital biomarkers in motor neurone disease (MND), with the aim of building a robust evidence base to support their use in future clinical trials. You will play a key role in setting up and delivering a multi-centre study across UK MND clinics. Your responsibilities will include working closely with local sites to support study set-up and delivery, onboarding participants, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring they understand study procedures, and coordinating the shipment and set-up of digital devices. You will also be responsible for maintaining high-quality data through ongoing monitoring, quality control, and database management. In addition, you will support the local testing and validation of digital and cognitive assessments. Research Associate in Statistical Genetics

About the role We are looking for a motivated Research Associate to lead the genomic and proteomic analyses for STRAT-GLP1, a research programme funded by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). This post will deliver the core analytical aims of the project, using human genetics, multi-cohort genome-wide association studies (GWAS), plasma proteomics, and drug-target Mendelian randomisation to define metabolically stratified Parkinson’s disease (PD) subtypes and identify which patients are most likely to respond to GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs). What you would be doing You will be working closely with Dr Cynthia Sandor and collaborators at Cardiff University (Prof Caleb Webber, Dr Samuel Neaves, and Dr Viola Volpato). The project aims to understand how metabolic factors — including insulin resistance, glycaemic dysregulation, adiposity, lipid metabolism, and renin–angiotensin system activity — influence PD risk, genetic architecture, and disease progression. Using large international datasets including UK Biobank, All of Us, Our Future Health, PPMI, and OPDC/Tracking, you will perform stratified GWAS and drug-target Mendelian randomisation to identify genetically defined PD subtypes, and translate these findings into clinically actionable blood-based proteomic biomarkers using Olink (PPMI and UK Biobank) and SomaScan (OPDC/Tracking) platforms. You will be the primary analyst on the project, with access to established data pipelines and secure compute environments from day one (UK Biobank Application 69610; PPMI; All of Us; Our Future Health; OPDC/Tracking). Advanced statistical approaches will be used to integrate genetic and proteomic data to identify patterns of disease progression and potential therapeutic targets, including GLP1R-related pathways. What we are looking for You will hold a PhD in statistical genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or a closely related quantitative discipline. You should have demonstrable experience in GWAS, Mendelian randomisation, and large-scale biobank data analysis. Familiarity with proteomic datsets and Bayesian modelling is desirable but not essential. About the role We are looking for a Clinical Trials Monitor to join the UKCRC registered Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU) team, to be responsible for clinical trial monitoring activities for two innovative real-world data randomised controlled trials, including a CTIMP. The COLLABORATE Trial is a UK‑wide adaptive study assessing the effectiveness and safety of commonly used enteral feeds in reducing necrotising enterocolitis, mortality and cognitive impairment in extremely preterm infants. The PATH Trial will evaluate whether personalised antibiotic prescribing can improve survival in hospitalised sepsis patients while addressing antimicrobial resistance. You will work closely with the Trial Managers, site teams, and clinical staff to ensure the trials are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory requirements. What you would be doing You will be responsible for monitoring activities at investigator sites, including feasibility, initiation, enrolment and follow-up, close-out and archiving, with guidance from the Trial Managers. You will: Conduct on-site and central monitoring to verify source data and ensure compliance. Perform Source Data Verification (SDV) and oversee site performance. Perform Site Initiation Visits (SIVs) and Close-Out Visits (COVs). Prepare monitoring reports and maintain regular site communication. Monitor Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) accountability. Maintain the Trial Master File (TMF) and distribute Investigator Site Files (ISFs). The role requires travel to investigator sites across the UK, with occasional overnight stays. Surviving small: genetic diversity, symbiosis and resilience in orchid populations

Deadline for application: Sunday 31 May 2026, 12 noon Online Interviews will be held on Friday 19 June 2026 Project Title: Surviving small: genetic diversity, symbiosis and resilience in orchid populations Many plant species are declining as habitats shrink and environmental pressures intensify. A long‑standing principle in conservation biology is that small populations are inherently vulnerable: they lose genetic diversity, become less resilient to change, and face a heightened risk of extinction. Yet some species persist for decades as small, scattered populations, apparently defying this expectation. This project investigates how such persistence is possible, using the woodland orchids of the genus Cephalanthera – the red helleborine (C. rubra), sword‑leaved helleborine (C. longifolia), and white helleborine (C. damasonium) – as a model system. All three species are declining in Britain and survive today in small populations. By combining modern genomic approaches with field surveys of fungi, pollinators and population dynamics across Britain and mainland Europe, the project will identify the mechanisms that allow small populations to survive, and the limits of that resilience. The findings will directly inform conservation strategies for Cephalanthera, and other rare species increasingly forced to persist in small populations as biodiversity loss accelerates. The research will examine three interacting factors that may underpin their resilience: • Life‑history traits such as long lifespan, dormancy, and clonal growth, which may buffer the loss of genetic diversity and create a “genetic extinction debt” where populations appear stable despite underlying vulnerability. • Pollination strategies, ranging from food deception to self‑pollination, which influence reproductive success and genetic diversity. • Dependence on mycorrhizal fungi, essential for orchid germination and growth, and potentially a major constraint on where populations can persist. The studentship  The PhD project will have the following objectives: 1. To estimate genome‑wide genetic diversity and its relationship to population size and fragmented species distribution in several European populations of the three Cephalanthera species; 2. To assess the influence of pollination strategies on population size and distribution; 3. To characterise fungal communities across orchid life stages in selected populations of the three species. The PhD project will offer comprehensive training in molecular biology techniques, conservation genetics, and assessment of symbiotic interactions with fungi and pollinators, preparing the candidate for the successful completion of their PhD, but also for a competitive edge in their future career in academia or industry. Research Associate in Statistical Genetics of Obesity

We are seeking an outstanding and highly quantitative researcher to join our research group, working at the forefront of statistical genetics and complex trait biology. This position offers the opportunity to lead cutting-edge analyses integrating large-scale canine and human genomic datasets to identify causal mechanisms underlying appetite and obesity. Scientific Context Our programme leverages the unique genetic architecture of domestic dog populations to accelerate gene discovery. These findings are integrated with human genetic data to identify conserved pathways regulating appetite and energy balance. This work is part of a major 5-year ERC-funded award aimed at advancing fundamental understanding of obesity and appetite biology, with the long-term goal of informing improved strategies for prevention and treatment. The Role The successful candidate will take a leading role in statistical genetic analyses across multiple large-scale datasets. This will include: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and meta-analysis across canine cohorts; Cross-species integration with human genetic datasets (biobank-scale resources); Fine-mapping and identification of candidate causal variants and genes; Development methods for polygenic prediction and examining trait architecture; Contribution to study design, analytical strategy, and high-impact publications. The role is primarily computational, with opportunities to collaborate closely with experimental colleagues on downstream functional validation. You will be encouraged to take intellectual ownership of projects and to develop independent research directions within the scope of the programme. About You We are looking for a researcher with strong training in statistical genetics, computational genomics, or a related quantitative discipline. You should have a PhD (or be near completion) in statistical genetics, genetics, bioinformatics, or similar and have experience in GWAS or complex trait analysis. Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, R, or equivalent) and experience working with large-scale genomic datasets is essential. Experience in cross-species or comparative genomics and/or familiarity with major human genetic resources (e.g. biobank-scale data) would be desirable.
