The Opportunity: We are seeking a skilled bioinformatician to join our team. You will have an interest and previous experience analysing omics datasets – including single cell, spatial transcriptomic and proteomic data. You will apply this experience to perform cutting edge analyses to a range of liver disease and cancer projects across our research programme. You will be a critical member of a predominantly wet-lab team who are eager to make the most of multi-omics data generated in-house. This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The salary for this post is £34,610 to £39,906per annum, depending on experience. The position is initially available for 24 months. The Opportunity: Cancer Grand Challenges – from DNA damage to the mechanisms of mutagenesis We are looking to employ a post-doctoral researcher to join the group of Professor Martin Taylor at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC), working to understand the mechanisms that drive mutagenesis. In this post you will be a key member of the international Cancer Grand Challenges CAUSE team mechanistically relating DNA damage to the mutations it generates. Transition Fellow (Cancer Research UK Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence)

The Opportunity: Cancer Research UK (CRUK) have awarded funding to renew the UCL-Edinburgh CRUK Glioma Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence (CoE). The CoE brings together researchers from the University of Edinburgh and University College London to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental biology of glioma and harness this knowledge to drive new translational approaches to improve patient outcomes. The post-holder will be based at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer, University of Edinburgh or affiliated research centres within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The mission of the Institute of Genetics and Cancer is to understand development and disease by using the latest approaches in genetic, genomic, cellular and clinical science. The postholder would benefit from world class facilities, and the combined resources and multidisciplinary skills, scientific expertise, technology and support services needed to maximise scientific discovery and provide an outstanding training environment. We are seeking transition fellows with a strong publication track record to develop an independent programme of research, relevant to the themes of the CoE. Fellows will be expected to apply for independent research funding supported by existing research programmes on brain tumours. They will receive a generous consumables budget and priority access to CoE infrastructure, including preclinical models, and will be supported by a variety of mentoring schemes. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. biology, neuroscience, biomedicine, cancer biology) and have successfully carried out a period of postdoctoral training. They should also have a proven publication record. Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills are essential. About us Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Rihel lab in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. The Rihel lab uses zebrafish to study mechanisms of sleep, using methods in genetics, pharmacology, behavioral neuroscience, and neuronal imaging. The lab is part of a larger community of multiple zebrafish research labs, working on many aspects of biology. About the role The main purpose of this position is to is to investigate sleep in zebrafish. The project uses a combination of molecular genetics, brain imaging, and behavioural analysis. About you The post holder is expected to test how sleep regulates synapse dynamics in the zebrafish model. The post holder will genetically and experimentally manipulate neurons and synapses in zebrafish mutants of sleep homeostasis; image brain activity and circuit function; and perform behavioural tracking experiments to follow how synapses are modulated by sleep, and vice versa. You will be expected to produce independent and original contributions to the development of causal links between sleep and neural substrates of homeostasis and to assist the team in the development, planning and delivery of the research aims. About us The UCL Huntington’s Disease Centre sits within the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The Department is internationally recognised for its research into neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia and related disorders, with a strong emphasis on understanding the genetic, molecular, cellular and neuropathological mechanisms that drive disease, and on linking these mechanisms to clinical outcomes. The UCL Huntington’s Disease Centre is led by Professor Sarah Tabrizi (Director) and Professor Gillian Bates (Co‑Director). About the role You will work on Cure Huntington’s Disease Initiative (CHDI) Foundation and UK DRI and Medical Research Council (MRC) funded projects within Professor Sarah Tabrizi’s research group at the Huntington’s Disease Centre. This is a key role within a world leading research Centre, and you will contribute to a programme of work aimed at understanding key molecular mechanisms underlying Huntington’s disease (HD) pathogenesis in post-mitotic neuronal systems. About us UCL Respiratory is part of the Division of Medicine at University College London and is based at the Rayne Institute. The department includes approximately ten principal investigators working across a wide range of respiratory diseases, from interstitial lung disease and infection to cancer and airways disease, with a strong focus on integrating mechanistic biology with clinical and translational research. Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that drive chronic lung disease, particularly interstitial lung disease (ILD). A central theme of our work is how epithelial injury and repair influence immune responses and fibrotic progression. We combine mechanistic laboratory biology with analysis of human clinical samples, with the aim of identifying biologically meaningful pathways that inform patient stratification and therapeutic targeting. The group brings together clinicians, scientists, and collaborators across disciplines to address key unanswered questions in lung disease. The postholder will explore how epithelial injury alters cell surface signalling and regulates leukocyte recruitment, activation, and tissue remodelling in the lung. Areas of focus include epithelial signalling pathways, integrin activation, and glycosylation-dependent immune recognition (including siglecs, mucins, and glycoproteins). The role will involve a combination of cell biology, molecular biology, and in vitro functional assays, with opportunities to engage in multi-omics and translational analyses of human samples. There may also be opportunities for in vivo work depending on project direction. About us Within the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and UK Dementia Research Institute at UCL, the laboratory of Doctor Salih is dedicated to investigating the interplay between the immune system and cognitive function in the ageing brain focusing on neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. We study genetic variations in the human population and their effects on neurodegenerative diseases using techniques such as GWAS, transcriptomics, and epigenetics. Our interdisciplinary approach integrates molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and advanced genomic methods to advance our understanding and treatment of dementia and age-related disorders. Our team is committed to translating our research findings into practical applications. By integrating GWAS data with transcriptomic (bulk, single-cell, long-read and spatial), proteomic and epigenetic analyses from human and model systems, we identify new risk genes and pathways involved in dementia and ageing. Through our efforts, we strive to develop new therapeutic approaches and diagnostic tools. About the role We are recruiting a Research Fellow to contribute a leading role to a project to identify the genetic, epigenetic, and cellular mechanisms by which oligodendrocytes and GWAS variants coordinate ageing and neurodegeneration by cross-talk with neurons and microglia. You will analyse newly generated H3K27ac datasets (ChIP-seq and CUT&Tag) and integrate them with new single-nucleus multiome data, and existing transcriptome data (bulk, single-cell, long-read and spatial), GWAS data, proteomics, and data from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-oligodendrocytes and other iPSC cultures using a wide range of bioinformatics approaches to dissect the mode of action by which epigenetic and genetic factors coordinate oligodendrocytic funtion and cell type cross-talk in ageing, resilience and disease. This specific role is supported by a larger UK DRI Key Question Stage II grant and is jointly supervised by Dr Dervis Salih and Dr Sarah Marzi (KCL). You will be based at UCL for one year, then will spend two years at King’s College London to lead the bioinformatic analysis and data integration between collaborators. You will be responsible for planning, execution and report of bioinformatics experiments and contribution to the formulation and submission of research publications as well as management and direction of this challenging project as opportunities allow. The overarching goal of the project is to understand how epigenetic and genetic factors come together to control oligodendrocyte function via transcriptome, proteome and cell-type cross-talk to impact ageing, neurodegeneration and resilience. It will also involve the development of future projections of biodiversity change using simulation models of species’ range shift.
