Job description: to investigate the neural basis of adaptive sensorimotor behaviors using in vivo high-dimensional neurophysiological recordings in mice to determine the direct contribution of specific circuit elements to sensory processing, motor planning and control through advanced data analysis to investigate mechanisms of how the brain-wide circuits interact in vivo through simultaneous recordings with multiple Neuropixels probes and in combination with two-photon calcium imaging to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team and take responsibility for research progress and research reporting, presentations at scientific meetings etc. to contribute to the development of data analysis methods and the fostering of international collaborations to contribute to teaching students (mentoring will be provided) 4SWS Requirements profile: Completed academic university degree (Master/Diplom) and PhD in a neuroscience-related field and a strong quantitative background Highly advantageous experience includes: – in neurophysiological in vivo recordings – behavioral paradigms in neuroscience – advanced data analysis – histological processing and microscopic imaging of brain tissue (to verify recording sites) experience in programming with Python and knowledge of statistical methods is required excellent language skills in English (German language skills are welcome but not essential) confidence and motivation to develop data analysis techniques and to drive research projects forward This is a fixed term post, initially for three years, but can be potentially extended for another three years. Research Associate (PhD/Postdoctoral Researcher) position for computer-based experiments to decipher the transcriptional program responding to stress in plants
In the Computational Biology research area, gene regulatory networks are generated using machine learning methods, and the resulting hypotheses are tested in the laboratory. This research project develops gene regulatory networks using machine learning methods in collaboration with experimental research groups in the USA and the UK. The complex regulatory program in plants responding to abiotic stress is deciphered from bulk RNA seq and single-cell ATAC seq data. A variety of machine learning methods are employed, with a particular focus on the explainability of the generated models.The successful candidate will conduct computer-based experiments to decipher the transcriptional program responding to stress in plants. The results will be analyzed and discussed in close collaboration with the research partners. Your tasks Research tasks (90%): Application of machine learning methods to create gene regulatory networks, including pre- and post-processing and the extraction of relevant features for prediction. The Department of Human Genetics is active in the field of modern human genetics research and diagnostics, with a particular focus on NGS-based methods and large-scale genome analyses. The department has a high-performance automation infrastructure, including liquid handling systems from Hamilton and MGI Smart 8, which is continuously being expanded. Your tasks: Development, implementation, optimization and automation of genomic workflows Operation, validation and troubleshooting of liquid handling robots (e.g. Hamilton, MGI Smart 8) Development and validation of new genomic protocols for research and diagnostics Performing fault analyses as well as routine maintenance and quality assurance of laboratory equipment Creation and maintenance of protocols (SOPs), validation documentation and quality assurance records in accordance with DAkkS.
