The Biophysical Chemistry and Diagnostics working group is an interdisciplinary team operating at the interface between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Chemistry. The aim of this project is to elucidate the mechanisms of human ABC transporters through the development and application of time-resolved infrared spectroscopy. The ongoing development of the medical curriculum at the newly established Faculty of Medicine provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of modern teaching methods for scientific content. 

Your tasks

Research tasks (65%)

  • Conducting and interpreting biophysical and biochemical experiments
  • Further development of infrared spectroscopic methods on proteins
  • Isolation and reconstitution of membrane proteins from bacterial cells
  • Data analysis and preparation of publications

academic teaching duties (25%)

  • Conducting lectures (2.6 LVS) of the medical curriculum including preparation and follow-up.

Self-governance (10%)

  • Organizational tasks within the working group

The position is conducive to academic qualification, and opportunities for further academic (or even professional) development are provided. There is the possibility of obtaining a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.).

Your profile

That’s what we expect

  • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in biochemistry, chemistry, biophysics or a comparable field
  • in-depth practical experience with time-resolved spectroscopy of proteins
  • relevant experience in the preparation of recombinant proteins
  • sound theoretical knowledge of biochemistry
  • Interest in teaching scientific content to medical students
  • Teamwork skills and independent working style
  • very good German language skills, both spoken and written
  • Gender and diversity competence
