Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical neuroscience, Health and rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology as well as Psychiatry and neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology invites applications for a researcher employment at the Department of Clinical neuroscience.
Extensive research in neuroinflammation with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis (MS) is conducted at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology, Section of Clinical neuroscience. The focus is on identifying biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid for improved diagnostics, prediction of disease activity, severity and progression, and for evaluation of treatment effects. In recent years, a particular focus has been placed on improving evaluation methods to identify patients with smoldering MS, i.e. gradual deterioration not associated with relapses. The mechanisms behind this deterioration will be studied in more detail with soluble biomarkers, quantitative MRI, OCT, and measurement of cognition and with various functional tests.
The MS research group also has national and international collaborations for MS registry studies, guidelines for evaluation of MS progression, and for the care and treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease (NMOSD).
Duties
The duties include the organization and design of studies, supervision and analysis of prospectively collected patient data, completion of manuscripts, as well as literature searches and classification of scientific material as a basis for clinical recommendations and guidelines.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position include being a specialist in neurology and PhD researcher in neurology. The position requires extensive expertise in neuroinflammation and clinical neurology, specifically in inflammatory demyelinating diseases such as MS and NMOSD.
Experience is required in the evaluation of biomarkers in blood, cerebrospinal fluid, MRI, OCT, and clinical functional tests for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic purposes. The requirements also include solid knowledge of working with extensive registry data and experience in working with clinical recommendations and guidelines.
Previous experience in scientific supervision and publication in peer-reviewed journals within the focus areas of the position is considered a merit. Networks for national and international collaboration within the focus areas of the position are desirable. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 6 months, 10% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
