The Werner Siemens Chair of Synthetic Biotechnology, School of Natural Sciences of the Technical University of Munich in Garching, is seeking a chemical laboratory technician, a chemical-technical assistant or a biological-technical assistant (m/f/d) for the Novopro project as soon as possible, for a fixed term until 31.2027.
The Werner Siemens Chair of Synthetic Biotechnology focuses on the isolation, characterization, and process-oriented optimization of enzymes and microorganisms for the production of industrial platform chemicals. A key research area is the biotechnological conversion of biogenic residues into valuable materials. This research is conducted in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
Your tasks:
The core of the project involves the development and establishment of optimized systems for efficient enzyme expression and their in- and ex vivo testing. Building on this foundation, high- and ultra-high-throughput screenings are performed to investigate libraries of randomly and selectively generated enzyme variants, with the aim of identifying novel enzymes with improved activity and process performance.
Your responsibilities will include, in particular:
– Cultivation of E. coli and recombinant protein expression
– Molecular genetic and biochemical laboratory work
– Development and application of (ultra-)high-throughput screening methods, including the use of microfluidic systems
– Performing instrumental analyses
– Project-related collaboration with external partners, including willingness to travel to the project partner in Martinsried
– Communication with project partners as well as documentation and reporting.
Your qualification profile:
For this area of responsibility, we are looking for a motivated, team-oriented and meticulous employee with practical knowledge of laboratory work.
Requirements:
– Completed vocational training as a chemical laboratory assistant, chemical-technical assistant (CTA), biological-technical assistant (BTA), or a comparable qualification
– Knowledge of microorganism cultivation (E. coli) and molecular biological methods (e.g., plasmid DNA transformation, plasmid DNA isolation, etc.)
– Very good knowledge of German and knowledge of English
– Basic knowledge of biochemistry and (bio)informatics
Our offer:
Employment will be offered with appropriate remuneration according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Länder (TVL). The Technical University of Munich (TUM) aims to increase the proportion of women in its workforce; therefore, applications from women are expressly encouraged.
The position is suitable for applicants with severe disabilities. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are otherwise essentially equally qualified, capable, and professionally competent.
Application:
We look forward to receiving your application documents. Please send this as a PDF file with the subject line “Novopro” by email no later than March 6, 2026 to:
