Position of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR in medical genetics
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35%) ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR The field of the position is medical genetics and the language of instruction is Swedish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage. The professorship in medical genetics is associated with a research director’s position at Folkhälsan Research Centre. Applicants must submit separate applications for the professorship and the research director’s position. An appointee to the position of assistant professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience. An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide toplevel research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application deadline. The person performing the university’s teaching and research position is required to master the language in which he or she must provide teaching. Successful completion of the task also requires good English language skills. Position of Professor in Nutrition and cardiometabolic health
The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry invites applications for the position of Professor in Nutrition and cardiometabolic health for a five-year fixed-term appointment. The position can be filled from 1.12.2026 onwards or as agreed and the position will be located at the Department of Food and Nutrition. Professor in Nutrition and Cardiometabolic Health is positioned at the intersection of nutrition science, cardiometabolic health, public health, metabolic research and food science. The professor focuses on the role of nutrition in the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases and contributes to population-based health promotion strategies. The professor should have an appropriate combination of expertise in the following areas: Nutrition and cardiometabolic health in the population: in-depth knowledge of the significance of diet, dietary patterns, foods, nutrients or bioactive food compounds in promoting cardiometabolic health. Mechanistic insights into the role of nutrition in promoting cardiometabolic health: the ability to investigate the interactions of metabolic pathways, such as lipid metabolism, inflammation, insulin resistance, and the gut microbiome. Approaches may include genetics, epigenetics, metabolomics, proteomics, and/or chronobiology, as well as related intervention trials and/or observational population studies. Food and its ingredients: the ability to assess the impact of foods, particularly functional and new plant-based products, on cardiometabolic health. Population and translational research: experience in conducting epidemiological studies, clinical trials, or translational interventions bridging basic science with public health implementation. These studies should also give an insight into individual dietary requirements and personalized/precision nutrition. This project will study how the Gene Regulatory Network of Klebsiella pneumoniae responds to antibiotics, including its Dynamics, Mechanisms, Sensitivity, Specificity, Single-cell Variability, and Vulnerabilities. Our group is multi-disciplinary, combining methods from Bioinformatics (RNA-seq, biological databases), Computational Biology (stochastic and analytical models of gene expression), Signal Processing (machine learning, image and signal processing), Biophysics, Microbiology and Single-cell Biology (flow cytometry, microscopy, synthetic biology, etc.). Job description We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher with a background in Systems Biology / Bioinformatics / Biophysics, or equivalent. The PhD student will join an international team that studies bacterial transcriptional programs of antibiotic adaptation combining theoretical and experimental methods.
