The Institute’s research areas include the development of intervention measures against various infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance in livestock farming, questions concerning the transmission, introduction, and survival of pathogens from livestock farming in the environment, and questions concerning disinfection in animal housing, veterinary clinics, and practices Responsibilities: Contributing to research and teaching at the Institute for Animal and Environmental Hygiene at the Free University of Berlin, supervising technical staff, doctoral candidates, and interns, project management, and independently developing project ideas up to the grant application stage. This position serves the candidate’s own academic qualification (further training to become a specialist veterinarian in animal and environmental hygiene and/or a Diplomate of the European College for Veterinary Microbiology). Participation in veterinary services for the clinic and research facilities. Employment requirements: Completed academic university degree in veterinary medicine (license to practice). Desired: Sound experience in the fields of animal hygiene, microbiology and molecular biology, in working with infectious agents (BSL2), preferably at a veterinary training institution; relevant experience with epidemiological and infectious disease investigations at the herd or veterinary clinic level, especially also with antibiotic-resistant pathogens; experience in applying for projects, experience in the organization and coordination of interdisciplinary research. The project integrates ecophysiology, metabolomics, bioinformatics, and chronobiology to understand how mussels optimize energy metabolism in response to environmental cycles. THESE ARE YOUR TASKS: conduct cutting-edge, qualification-oriented research integrating ecological physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to advance toward the successful completion of a PhD (Promotion) characterize metabolic rhythms in marine mussels from tidal and atidal environments by developing and applying novel experimental and analytical approaches design experiments to analyze variations in mitochondrial physiology, abundance, and metabolome profiles in response to tidal and diurnal cycles collect mussels from intertidal and subtidal zones, and maintain them in controlled aquaria for experimental studies perform mitochondrial analyses and utilize metabolomics tools to identify metabolic profiles and pathways associated with environmental adaptation collect, process, and analyze data using advanced statistical and bioinformatic tools to ensure data integrity and maintain detailed records present findings at scientific conferences and contribute to peer-reviewed journal publications collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) led by Prof. Kristin Tessmar-Raible and Dr. Christian Bock to interpret results, refine experimental methods, and share progress in project meetings. co-mentor and supervise students or research assistants, working closely with Prof. Inna Sokolova.
