Excellent command of English, strong organizational and communication skills, and a high degree of independence. Experience with AI-based data analysis or modeling approaches is explicitly desired. German language skills or the willingness to learn it is required. To obtain civil-servant status (in accordance with § 41 LVO), candidates must be employed in a full-time position lasting three years and six months following his/her studies or lasting one year following the conferral of his/her doctoral degree. W3-Professorship of Experimental Biodiversity Research

The position corresponds to a full professorship in the German academic system. It will be created in the framework of the Cluster of Excellence 3121 “TERRA: Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World”, together with three tenure-track professorships at the University of Tübingen and a W3-professorship at the University of Hohenheim. TERRA will develop an integrated understanding of how geo-biosphere interactions in terrestrial systems induce and respond to environmental changes. A team of more than 25 research groups will use evidence from both the geological past and the present to improve projections of future global-change impacts and assess the effectiveness of mitigation and adaptation strategies. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative colleague who is a recognized expert in biodiversity research in terrestrial systems. We are particularly interested in colleagues working with animals, and addressing one or more of the following topics: responses of soil biodiversity to environmental changes, plant-soil fauna interactions, below-ground food webs, or biodiversity effects on biogeochemical cycles or other geo-biosphere interactions. While experiments should be at the core of the candidate’s research, additional molecular and/or theoretical approaches are a plus. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will lead research and teaching in the field of ecology or zoology, enhancing our research strengths in ecology, zoology, evolution, and conservation biology within the School of Biology. We are particularly looking to expand our expertise by recruiting an academic who specialises in one or more of the following areas: biodiversity, conservation ecology, global change biology, quantitative ecology, zoology or a closely related discipline that integrates ecological and zoological perspectives. Your role will be instrumental in expanding our Faculty’s strategic research priorities by enhancing our core expertise through innovative research and collaboration. You will be expected to develop and maintain a strong network of local, national, and international contacts across academia, industry, conservation, and policy sectors. Your work will seek to bridge the gap between fundamental and applied research, aligning with our commitment to producing science with real‑world impact. You will also contribute significantly to the development of outstanding graduates and scholars through innovative, high-quality teaching, supervision, and mentorship, while leading ground-breaking research in your field.
