About Us
The University Medicine Oldenburg (UMO) is jointly operated by the University of Oldenburg and the four local hospitals. It stands for innovative, cross-border medical research and high-quality healthcare in the region. With its medical education pathway in a model degree program and an interdisciplinary research environment, the UMO offers a unique nucleus for clinical training and translational research. The research focus of the Department of Human Medicine includes, in particular, the areas of tissue degeneration and regeneration (infection, inflammation, neoplasia), early development and rare diseases, interactive systems biomedicine, and digital excellence in medicine and regional (comprehensive) healthcare.

Your tasks
- The central tasks of your position include the academic development of the institute with research focuses in the area of the denomination (e.g., on preventing the selection of multi-resistant pathogens and their spread, on the early detection of pathogen transmission through genome-based surveillance and artificial intelligence, or on One Health), as well as the management of the University Institute for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the Oldenburg University Hospital. In this role, you will strengthen the Department of Human Medicine in research and teaching in a team-oriented manner.
- They participate in the further development and initiation of joint research projects, for example in existing research initiatives on multi-resistant gram-negative pathogens and hepatitis viruses or the NUM specialist network infections.
- They support and promote the academic career development of students and staff.
- In your teaching, you represent the entire field of hygiene and infection prevention in the faculty’s degree programs.
- They offer courses in the model study program in human medicine in German and in the Master’s program in Molecular Biomedicine also in English.
- In the clinical area, you will continue the comprehensive hospital hygiene care of the Oldenburg Clinic and the other Oldenburg clinics within the framework of cooperation agreements.
- Together with other clinics and institutes, as well as the pharmacy, they are participating in the “Antibiotic Stewardship” program for the Oldenburg Hospital.
- Since the University and University Medicine Oldenburg are linked through a cooperation agreement with the Rijkuniversiteit Groningen and the University Hospital UMCG, active participation in the cooperation is expected.
- Close cooperation with the relevant departments in the faculty and in the hospitals of the University Medicine Oldenburg is expected.

Your profile
Provided:
- They meet the hiring requirements according to § 25 NHG.
- They have completed specialist training in hygiene and environmental medicine or in microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology, or a comparable specialist training recognized by the relevant medical association.
- Her expertise includes comprehensive knowledge and experience in the entire field of hospital hygiene, including technical hygiene and drinking water hygiene.
- They are also highly qualified in the prevention of nosocomial infections in high-risk populations and areas (e.g., neonatology, bone marrow transplant, cardiac surgery, intensive care).
- Her successful research is evidenced by international publications in hospital hygiene and infection prevention.
- They have successfully acquired competitive, extramural third-party funding.
- They have leadership and management experience.
- They are qualified to represent the subject area in its full breadth and depth in the teaching of the model study program in human medicine and the Master’s program in Molecular Biomedicine, including an active commitment to the newly introduced forms of knowledge transfer.
- They have a cooperative working style that promotes a diverse and equal opportunity work environment.
- They have experience in mentoring and promoting academic career development.
- You should outline your potential for collaboration in research, teaching, and patient care in a concept paper of no more than 5 pages each.
- They already possess very good German language skills upon starting their service in order to guarantee quality-assured communication with patients and staff in healthcare.
- They have good English language skills.
Desired:
- They have experience in the detection and prevention of nosocomial infections using new molecular typing methods or artificial intelligence and are interested in the field of “One Health”.
- They have practical experience in Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS) and ideally the qualification as an ABS expert.
