Technical Assistant position in the field of Molecular Biology

In Department 10 – Biology, people from all over the world work and conduct research together on current topics. To strengthen our international team at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), we are looking for a dedicated part-time Technical Assistant to support our professor and research staff in the Quantitative Proteomics Laboratory (AG Beli).

Your tasks:

  • Molecular and cell biological work with mammalian cell cultures, including CRISPR/Cas9-based generation of knockout cell lines
  • Preparation and analysis of biological samples using flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and LC-MS/MS
  • Application of common molecular biological methods, including DNA/RNA isolation and cloning.
  • Independent planning, execution and documentation of experiments as well as support of the research team
  • General laboratory organization, including ordering materials, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and preparation of laboratory and teaching activities.
  • Support for the working group management on occupational safety and prevention measures
  • Support in the onboarding and supervision of employees, students and visiting scholars

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed training as a state-certified technical assistant (preferably BTA) or as a laboratory technician with equivalent skills and experience
  • very good knowledge of routine molecular biological and cell biological laboratory procedures
  • Experience in operating laboratory equipment
  • very good knowledge of the application of biochemical and molecular biological methods (protein expression, electrophoresis, western blot, immunoprecipitation, nucleic acid purification, cloning, PCR, immunofluorescence staining)
  • good knowledge of handling, storage and disposal of chemicals
  • very good knowledge of German and English, both spoken and written (comparable to level C1)
  • very good knowledge of common computer programs, especially Office programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • high level of teamwork and communication skills, as well as reliability and initiative 
  • careful and conscientious work ethic

In such cases, a lower salary classification may be appropriate depending on the applicant’s individual qualifications.

Depending on personal qualifications, classification up to  pay grade 9a TV-L is possible. The position is to be filled as soon as possible  on a permanent basis .
