Researcher position – single-cell-based multiomics

Website University of Gothenburg

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following four departments:

  • The Department of Infectious Diseases
  • The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
  • The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
  • The Department of Laboratory Medicine

At present, the institute has about 315 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.

Duties

We are looking for a researcher to take a leading role in an externally funded research program focusing on advanced multiome technologies for single cells in cancer biology. The work involves the development and application of integrated transcriptomic and epigenomic methods (e.g., scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, CITE-seq, and multiome platforms) to study tumor heterogeneity, clonal evolution, and epigenetic plasticity.

The employee is expected to independently run sub-projects, contribute to strategic planning of research activities, and take responsibility for method development and data analysis within the group. The position includes experimental work in cell and animal models, advanced bioinformatic analysis of bulk and single-cell data, and integration of molecular profiles with functional in vivo studies. Supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as participation in teaching and administrative tasks, are included.

Qualifications

A PhD in a relevant subject is required. The applicant must have strong scientific credentials and documented experience of bulk and single-cell-based multiomics (e.g., RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, CITE-seq) as well as the ability to independently analyze and integrate these data.

Documented experience in translational cancer research and relevant animal models is required, including the integration of molecular profiling with functional in vivo validation.

Very good bioinformatic skills are required, with advanced analysis in R and work in a UNIX/Linux environment, as well as experience of established frameworks for single-cell data and reproducible analysis flows. Experience of integrated multi-omic platforms and HPC environments is an advantage.

Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a requirement. Knowledge of Swedish with the ability to work professionally in Swedish is a strong merit. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Employment

The position is permanent, full time, and is placed at the Institute of Biomedicin. Probationary employment could be applied. First day of employment as agreed.
