Department/Faculty: Australian Immunogenomics Association
Deadline: 14-01-2026
Classification: Academic Level B
Salary package: $118,632 – $134,507 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Term: Full time, Fixed term (until October 2027)
- Develop your career with a nationally-distributed team working at the forefront of immunogenomics, translating multi-modal genomic datasets into clinical research insight
- Contribute to important work that identifies the genetic causes of inborn errors of immunity in people, to produce better healthcare outcomes and further our understanding of immune function
- Build your research profile in a discovery environment, doing computational work that requires data analytics and visualisation tools, to help identify patterns in large datasets
The Position
The Research Fellow position will join an exciting new venture with the Australian Immunogenomics Association (AIGA) – an alliance between leading Australian medical research institutions (including the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) and hospitals to advance shared objectives in immunogenomics. Significantly, the position will develop a bespoke data exploration system for project data, deployed through the web, for AIGA researchers and clinicians to engage with their data to identify causes of immune disease. Data includes genome sequences, expression profiles, single cell transcriptomes and phenotypic modalities such as flow cytometry. The goal of this work will be to use novel methodology to use data-driven approaches to identify genomic signals that underly pathogenic mechanisms. The position will be based at the JCSMR, ANU, and work closely with colleagues based at the AIGA node at The Institute for Tropical Medicine, James Cook University. The position may optionally be based in Cairns, North Queensland.
The Person
The Research Fellow will be highly collaborative and engage with a nationally distributed team. You will have a postgraduate degree and a growing research track record in a relevant area, such as genomics, bioinformatics, genetics or computational biology. You will also have substantial capability to develop data tools and analytics, including interfaces to allow non-computational colleagues to explore their datasets. Importantly, you will have a preference for highly collaborative discovery research and evidence of productive teamwork activities.
The College
The ANU College of Science and Medicine encompasses the disciplines of: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environment and Society, Mathematics, Physics, and Science Communication and is also home to a number of cross-disciplinary and specialist Institutes and Centres. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science and Medicine conduct research and deliver a research-led education program that encompasses the breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities.
