The Faculty of Medicine at Ruhr University Bochum invites applications for a W3 professorship (m/f/d) in Medical Microbiology, to commence on April 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and teaching in the field.

The professorship represents the field of Medical Microbiology in its entirety, encompassing research, teaching, and potentially patient care. The position is open to both research-oriented physicians and natural scientists. We are seeking a nationally and internationally recognized scientist with methodological expertise in infection models, molecular microbiology, and potentially microbial diagnostics, who will strengthen the faculty’s research focus on pathogen-host interaction.
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the faculty’s research priorities (oncology, neuroscience, and protein science). Clinical and scientific collaborations with institutions of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Ruhr (UK RUB) in the existing research priorities and development area of host/microbe interactions, as well as participation in existing and future collaborative research projects, are desirable.

Furthermore, the following are expected:
- The willingness and proven ability to acquire substantial third-party funded research projects
- A high level of commitment to teaching
- The willingness to engage in interdisciplinary scientific work
- Experience in translational microbiological research
