The Department of Cell Anatomy & Biology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Neuroscience.

Job Description:

Seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow with a strong background in Neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, developmental biology to explore the mechanisms underlying brain development, brain aging and neurological disorders to drive projects for the understanding of the role of primary cilia in the brain. This position offers the candidate a unique opportunity to be exposed to the multidisciplinary and state-of-the-art approaches (mouse genetics, human iPSCs, in vivo live imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, behavioral assays) to contribute innovative discovery-based research.

  • Perform cell and molecular biology, and neuroscience techniques
  • Preparing manuscripts and reports, and support grant applications
  • Ability to communicate scientific findings via research meetings, oral presentations, and publications
  • Interpreting and visualizing results and presenting findings to the research team
  • Collaboration with other researchers, scientists, and technical staff
  • Ability to mentor students and other lab members

Qualifications:

  •  Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field within the last 0-36 months
  • A demonstrated track record of scientific productivity, including a minimum of one first-author peer-reviewed research publication
  • Experience with cell/molecular biology: cell culture (i.e., iPSC/stem cell culture, primary neuron or glial cell culture), mouse genetics, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, Western blotting, FACS-sorting
  • Prior research experience working with human iPSC cells and/or transgenic mouse models is an asset
  • CRISPR screening is an asset
  • Experiences of scRNAseq/ATAC sequencing and analyses is an asset
  • Familiarity with software for statistical analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
