Postdoc in high-throughput microbial genetics (d/f/m, E 13 TV-L, 100%)

Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI)

Application deadline: 20.02.2026

The Systems Biology of Antibiotics groupof the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI) at the University ofTübingenis recruiting a

Postdoc in high-throughput microbial genetics (d/f/m, E 13 TV-L, 100%)

to start as soon as possible working on ERC funded research, initially limitated to three years.

The project aims to systematically map drug and genetic interactions of bacterial immunity in microbial isolates using high-throughput genetics (Brenzinger et al, 2024,Nature Microbiology). The ideal candidate will do wet-lab work at the interface of microbiology and functional genomics, and more specifically develop transposon- and CRISPR-based approaches to characterize genome-wide regulation of bacterial defence systems.

The candidate should have:

  • a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related subjects
  • strong interest in genome-wide functional genetic methods, such as transposon or CRISPR assays. Previous experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • scientific creativity and drive to address fundamental biological questions working in multidisciplinary teams
  • excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

We offer
Our multidisciplinary and international team combines basic microbiology with highthroughput screening and systems biology approaches to improve our understanding of bacterial molecular networks of drug resistance and pathogenicity. We have access to state-of-the-art robotic platforms for profiling bacterial physiology, and core-facilities for next-generation sequencing and metabolomics. We support career development, as well as continuous mentoring opportunities.

How to apply
Send your application as one pdf file by email tosystemsmicro.recruit@cmfi.unituebingen.de. The file should contain: a cover letter, your CV (including contact details of 3 academic referees and publications list), a short summary of relevant projects, and certificates. If have any questions, visit us at www.brochadolab.com or contact Prof. Dr. Ana Rita Brochado ana.brochado@uni-tuebingen.de.

The review of applications will begin February 20, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
