Project description
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with an interest in algorithms for large-scale sequence analysis and computational genomics. The position offers flexibility: although we have ongoing projects focusing on structural variant (SV) detection, lrRNA-seq data analysis, and various applications in read mapping, for example in metagenomics, we are also open to discussing and developing research ideas proposed by the candidate. Applicants are encouraged to describe their own research vision and how it can complement or further develop our current activities.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence research direction, contribute methodologically and computationally, and collaborate at the interface between algorithm development and analysis of real biological data in an international research environment. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in computer science, mathematics, statistics or bioinformatics as well as good programming skills. Previous knowledge or experience of working with biological sequence data is an advantage.
Job duties
This interdisciplinary project combines algorithm design, high-performance computing, software development, and analysis of both simulated and real biological data. The candidate will work at the interface between bioinformatics, data structures, and biological research. Although the main focus is methodological and computational, the employee is expected to acquire sufficient knowledge in molecular biology to be able to work effectively in the interdisciplinary research environment.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to the relevant doctoral degree is required. The degree must be completed no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment criteria
It is considered meritorious if the doctoral degree or equivalent has been completed no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, a previously completed degree may also be considered meritorious. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
When making the appointment, particular importance will be attached to scientific proficiency and the relevance of the applicant’s scientific background.
About the employment
The position is full-time and is valid until further notice, however, at least two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Entry date 2026-06-01 or as agreed.
