The IMCN Research Group is a group of world-leading cognitive neuroscientists who aim to bridge the gap between neuroscience and cognition. Members of the IMCN

have a set of skills ranging from neuroanatomy and neurochemistry via neuroimaging to mathematical cognitive modelling.

What are you going to do

As part of the project, you will carry out microscopy processing of human-brain specimens, digitization of the microscopy slices, subsequent image processing, and statistical modeling of the neuropathological profiles. Prior to microscopy processing ultra-high field MRI images will be acquired, and quantitative comparisons will be made across imaging modalities. You will work together with other researchers within the group, and other universities to register the imaging reconstructions to available whole-brain data.

You will be hired via the University of Amsterdam and collaborate with researchers at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (Amsterdam), Max Planck Institute for Cognition and Brain sciences in Leipzig (GE), University of Liège (BE), University of Pècs (HU), Sorbonne-Université (FR), and McGill University (CA).

What do you have to offer

  • A PhD in neuroscience or similar
  • Affinity with histological techniques
  • A strong interest in image processing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong social skills and professional flexibility to work within a team of interdisciplinary researchers

    What else do we offer you

       a position in which initiative and input are highly valued;

    The appointment concerns temporary employment of 38 hours per week (1.0 fte) for a period of 2.5 years (max 5% teaching). Teaching would involve teaching work groups/practical sessions or supervising thesis students who can assist in data collection. The intended starting date is as soon as possible after 1 January, 2026.

    Based on a full-time appointment (1.0 fte), the gross monthly salary will be between 4.728 and 5.705 euros (scale 11.0 – 11.6), depending on qualifications and experience, based on the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
