The Department of Zoology is one of the departments of the Faculty of Science and has approximately 80 employees, including researchers, doctoral students and administrative staff. Research and education at the department takes place in an international environment and focuses on animal biology. Outstanding and high-quality research is conducted in a range of different subjects, including animal behavior, evolutionary biology, ecology, genomics and conservation biology.

Project description
Selected candidates will lead a project that uses experimental evolution and comparative genomics in the model system Saccharomyces to answer fundamental questions in evolutionary biology.
Job duties
This research position is primarily focused on research in evolutionary biology. The work will be mainly laboratory-based, but may also include fieldwork.
Eligibility requirements
A researcher is hired primarily for research and must have completed a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
When making appointments, special emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in evolutionary biology and experience in experimental evolution, genomics and transcriptomics. Previous experience in cultivation of Saccharomyces yeast and programming (e.g. in R or Python) is an advantage. Applicants should have good quantitative skills, be well-organized, have good communication skills and enjoy working both independently and in a team.
About the employment
The position is full-time and is limited to a maximum of 12 months. Start date September 10, 2026.
