Project description
Metabolic control of cell nuclei
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a strong interest in method development to join our research team. The project aims to develop and apply groundbreaking methods to study protein interactions in cells and tissues, based on the expertise of the Piazza laboratory. The method has already been established as a proof-of-concept, and you will work on further development and optimization to achieve broad usability and high reproducibility. You will also apply the method to study current biomedical issues and contribute to new knowledge with the potential to improve treatments of human tumors and immunotherapies.
The Piazza laboratory uses mass spectrometry-based proteomics methods to study protein interactions in cells and tissues. Within the project, you will receive training in both experimental and computational approaches to answer fundamental biological questions with medical relevance, using innovative systems biology techniques. The project is interdisciplinary and integrates multi-omics approaches to understand how metabolism and metabolic enzymes regulate chromatin, both at the population level and at the single-cell level. You will have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure at SciLifeLab in Solna and participate in international, interdisciplinary collaborations.
Eligibility requirements
To be admitted to doctoral studies, the applicant must have basic and specific eligibility requirements. The eligibility requirements must be met by the application deadline.
You have basic eligibility if you have completed a degree at advanced level, or have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (ECs), of which at least 60 ECTS credits are at advanced level, or have otherwise acquired essentially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
Specific eligibility requirements are described in the general curriculum for doctoral education in molecular biosciences. Applicants must have at least 120 credits in molecular biology, biology, chemistry or equivalent in their undergraduate education. As well as at least 60 credits at advanced level in molecular biosciences or equivalent, of which at least 30 credits must consist of independent work.
Selection
Selection of applicants is made based on their ability to benefit from postgraduate education. Criteria used to assess this ability are:
- Documented knowledge in the relevant research area.
- A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and integration of genomics and proteomics concepts.
- Strong interest in quantitative biology.
- Curiosity and motivation to learn several different omics methods.
- Experience in quantitative proteomics or NGS library preparation is an advantage.
- Experience working with human cancer cell lines, stem cells and/or immunohistochemistry is an advantage.
- Programming skills in Python or R are an advantage.
- Very good communication skills
- Good experimental or computational background and very good knowledge of English, both oral and written.
- Analytical and creative ability.
- Initiative.
- Autonomy.
- Collaboration skills.
