The Nano-antibody Service Facility (NSF) is one of strategic Technology Platforms of the University of Zurich, located at the AgroVet-Strickhof in Lindau. The NSF provides the technology and know-how to produce single-domain antibody fragments, commonly known as VHHs, or nano-antibodies, to the research community. Due to increasing demand for our services, we expand our team with a part-time laboratory technical assistant for a one-year initial contract with the possibility of renewal.
Your responsibilities
You will be assisting the Head of NSF in generating phage-displayed nano-antibody libraries and selecting high affinity binders. Your assignments will include molecular biology techniques such as amplification and purification of DNA, phage precipitation, bacterial expression, clone picking, and depending on your skills also phage display screenings. In addition, you will be responsible for general lab tasks like media and agar plate preparation using aseptic techniques, routine maintenance of the instruments, cleaning glassware, managing laboratory inventory, and other general tasks as assigned. After a thorough introduction phase your responsibilities and duties shall grow to enable you to take over the deputization of the senior scientist.
Your profile
- An apprenticeship as laboratory technician, a high school diploma with lab education, or an equivalent degree in Biology or related field with work experience in the molecular biology lab of at least 2 years is expected
- Good laboratory practice skills, practical knowledge of aseptic techniques, ability to diligently follow lab protocols, and highly attentive working attitude are required
- The willingness to occasionally engage in animal experimentation (immunisation of alpaca) is expected, a certificate to perform animal experiment is of advantage, or has to be acquired later.
- the readiness to develop your scientific skills is expected
- Good organization skills and ability to work independently are necessary
- Flexibility in the working schedule would be highly desired
- Communication skills in English are required, German of advantage
- Basic MS-Office skills are expected
