The research groups that the candidate will be joining investigate the mechanisms and dynamics of plasmid copy number in pathogenic bacteria, with a particular focus on infection biology and the evolution of antibiotic resistance. Plasmids play a central role in spreading antimicrobial resistance across bacterial species and environments. The project aims to determine how variation in plasmid copy number influence resistance evolution and horizontal gene transfer. The successful candidate will have access to a large collection of genetically well-characterized microorganisms, infection models, cutting-edge tools, and an interactive and stimulating working environment.
