About This Opportunity 

Join the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) and contribute to pioneering research that combines protein engineering with microfluidics for translational applications across medicine and agriculture. Working within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptides and Protein Science, you will be part of a collaborative, innovative and purpose-driven research environment focused on developing new processes for developing real-world solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for an outcome-driven scientist with expertise in molecular biology and protein biochemistry who is passionate about creating change together through discovery, collaboration and excellence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing molecular biology experiments, including cloning, PCR, and plasmid construction

  • Performing recombinant protein expression and purification.

  • Supporting the design and delivery of research studies and contributing to protein production, purification, affinity evaluation and functional assays.

  • Maintaining accurate research records, analysing experimental outcomes and presenting findings at research group meetings.

  • Providing laboratory, administrative and safety support, including consumables management, literature reviews, reporting and compliance with research protocols.

About You  

  • Completion of a degree qualification in molecular biology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.

  • Practical experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, including plasmid construction and, protein expression and purification.

  • Practical experience with protein expression in heterologous expression systems such as yeast cells.

  • Experience with microfluidics, such as microfluidic chip fabrication and handling, would be viewed favourably.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot scientific equipment and laboratory procedures.

  • Ability to work independently, with strong organisational, record-keeping and time-management abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and inclusive research team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
