Project description
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-limiting genetic disease that is associated with chronic lung infection and subsequent damage. The advent of new therapies called CFTR modulators have effectively slowed down the disease process for people with CF still have inflamed lungs.
This project will focus on developing new drug targets for the treatment of CF related inflammation, with a specific focus on the S100 protein complex calprotectin. We will use patient samples, computer modelling and state of the art ex vivo models to develop ways to perturb the pro-inflammatory nature of S100 proteins.
Funding Notes
All students can apply, however, only UK home fees are covered. Student stipend and bench fees paid by PhD studentship funded by School of Infection & Immunity and the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences.
